An update and some long posts...
Sorry about the length...Just updating as to my vehicular situation...
There is a race story at the end, promise.
I just went ahead and quoted myself from another board I moderate. I'll just break it down into three different posts for easier viewing.

Well, as you guys know, I crashed my Civic last month. As of this coming Thursday, I am going to be entering a new era in automotive ownership. My most recent cars have been a 1990 Integra with a b16 swap, and before that, a fixed-up Accord. My secondary cars in that period were 1) a Mazda Protege'; 2) A Toyota Corolla; and 3) Isuzu Rodeo (which I still have).
This Thursday, I will be going back into the Nissan realm (used to have a hardbody p/u) with my latest purchase: a 1992 Sentra SE-R. I have long lusted for this car, for I know this car's potential (in the mid 90's these cars were running high 14's with just I/H/E/weight reduction). Here's the stock specs.
The car is completely bone stock, but is already faster than my 1.6Liter Civic, and this car tops-out much higher. My friend's shop here in town already has a FWD SR20DET that is ready to plunk in it, though I doubt I'd have the money too soon...but I'll dream.
I still love Honda's and will remain loyal but, as of now, this was the best bang-for-the-buck I could get.

And today...
I ended up picking the car up last Sunday.
I am also fighting the ticket the best I can, since, after some recalling, I realized the main reason I didn't the truck in fron t of me was stopped was because of 1) the glare of the sun against his taillights combined with 2) the glare of the sun against his red truck...which combined everything together. Hope it holds.

Well, my SE-R finally got one under its belt.
Yesterday morning, as I was pulling in to park here at school (where I'm posting from, obviously), I saw that this red '91 Prelude is parked next to me. I know this car, because I had raced him before on the way to school with my last car (R.I.P.), the Civic, and beat him with it. The Prelude had some rims, exhaust, intake, plug wires, and a few other goodies. Knowing that my bone-stock SE-R is already faster than my fixed-up Civic ever was, I knew that I should be able to take the 'Lude.
As I get out and get my bag out of the trunk, I saw the owner and his roommate (who happens to be in one of my classes) standing next to the 'Lude. Just for shits and grins, I looked at them and said "hey, I'll race you with my bone-stock Sentra". They looked at me like I had lost my mind...owner kinda smirked and said, "sure I'll race ya", with a shit-eating grin. Cool.
Anyhow, I talked to the owner's roomie in class, and he told me "man, that thing pulls, you'll just get embarassed"...referring to the 'Lude. I then proceeded to educate him on the merits of the SR20 motor that is in my car. He didn't seem convinced.
So, as I started driving home with a (hot
) female schoolmate I am carpooling with, chance has it that 'Lude boy and his roomie is right behind me in traffic. I just had that feeling that the dude was going to try and show off if we get a break in traffic, and I told my passenger as much. She said, "go for it!" since she herself wanted to see what my new car can do (did I mention that she's HOT
? ).
Sure enough, homeboy was in a playful mood, cutting in and out of traffic, while I just cruised...there was a lot of traffic. Well, even with his driving antics, he only ended up directly in front of me. I knew then that when traffic breaks, this fool would go for it, and I'd punch it too for few seconds, just to see if my assumptions were right (His 'Lude<My old Civic<My Sentra).
The break in traffic came, with the lane to our rights opening up, with no traffic ahead for about a half-mile. 'Lude boy downshifts and guns it, coffee-can screaming in anguish. I downshift to second, and follow suit (remember, he had the jump in acceleration). Sometime in third gear, a few seconds later, I actually had to let-off, because I was afraid I'd rear-end them (they were still accelerating). I hopped on the gas after a second of pause, and proceeded to go around them.
We get to the part where I turn right onto the freeway onramp where I always exit...and so do they. I thought it was perfect, because while merging, there's two lanes for about an eight of a mile, more than likely allowing us to get an extended run. I notice that they decided to go straight
. I rolled my window (theirs was down) and looked over to them and said "c'mon man, let's do this...freeway!" Driver just looked at me kinda meekly and said "nah, man I gotta go this way..." which I knew to be a lie, unless he changed driving routes all of a sudden.
Funniest part is, this morning, while riding with my carpool (we take turns driving), we started talking about the race and she tells me that she thought it was so funny...she actually saw a look of fear in their faces...more of an "Oh shit!" look when I loomed large in their rear-view. That sooo made my day.
Don't know what they have to say yet...they're not in school today...seriously.
Edit: Just saw them a few minutes ago during a break. All the dude had to say was: "Wait till I soup up my car", which I proceeded to reply: "my car's stone-stock man, I got room to improve too"...and he walked away.

Good luck fighting the ticket, but I don't see how your defense is going to help at all. The rules of the road are that if you hit someone from behind then you are at fault. It doesn't matter if voices are talking to you from the clouds, you were still suppose to be in control of your vehicle.
If you try that defense the court could easily say that since the visibility was limited (due to the sun) you should have been driving slower.
I am pretty sure that they only way you will get cleared of fault is if:
A) There is a witness that says the driver in front intentionally slammed on their brakes and you then hit them.
or
B) The driver that you hit was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Otherwise, I don't think you have any chance of getting out of this one.
