Default VW Turbo Bug...

I was in my RX-8 (not my S2000) today... Behind a VW Turbo bug... I was surprised at how quick that little bugger was!

... no race or anything to speak of, I was just behind and the bug got on it-- I wasn't able to pull at all. Granted, I was in my RX-8, but still.. I would have thought they were slower, but alas... it was actuallly pretty impressive.

No kill, no race... just saying I was impressed.

Was it silver? Did you see the guy or the front of the car?

Like most turbo cars, it can easily be modded into quick with a few mods. I don't think a stock Beetle turbo is that quick. They are pushing only 150hp and lots of weight.

I think they are actually 180HP stock now and just adding a chip takes them to about 210 with decent torque.. Would not categorize it as a fast car but not slow either when equipped with a manual transmission..

There are two locally that have front mounts and a bunch of other mods, and they could easily keep up with an S2000. Pretty cool for a Beetle.

I have one locally that has just a few mods running 13's. Like any turbo car with a few extra bucks you can get some extra power.

Ya, my GF has one, its actually quick. VERY floaty suspension and horrible steering responce after coming out of my S and jumping in her car. But it is still able to take a turn pretty quick, when you know how to drive it.

I keep telling here we have to "chip it"

they are supposed to actually bump it up quite a bit...I'm sure she'll notice it, but I know she'd love it...

I guess they make the A/F better and bump the boost up some(thats where most of the power is gained)

And ya, I would expect handling to suck, especially on stock suspension, but look at the S stock suspension...thats what I am comparing it to now. I was more noting about when I drive up "my" 1.5 mile long steep twisty (fun) hill in my S. Then I jump in her car and drive it around...it just reminds me of how much I'd rather be in the S.

But, back when I had my 2g (99) Eclipse, and put the stock supension back on it, our cars handling didn't feel all that different...pretty sad on the Eclipse's part...god damn DSM, fast going straight though.
