Default We didn't by a dragster

Hey Guys:

Those of you that send emails that tell sad stories about not winning off the line against a M5, 911, Viper, etc. Let's get real. We bought the S2000 package for a lot of things. If we wanted pure speed off the line, another auto would've been our choice. Why are we challenging horsepower off the line. Challenge them while your moving and there are curves ahead. Our S2000 is special, but not from a stop light. If I wanted "from stop light performance" I'd buy a Dodge Charger, or since I'm currently watching "Bullit", a souped up old Mustang.

Challenging someone on curves is VERY dangerous and can result in you and the person and bystanders getting hurt. Also, cornering takes much more skill and "balls", beating a F355 or F360 on corner doesn't mean the S2k is a better handler, all it means is that the s2k driver had more skill or "bigger balls" or a combination of the two. Speaking of balls. I have never said balls so many times in one post, oh wait, i said it again, damn you.

Going in a straight line is "the safest" and the most comparable way to compare performance, Period.

You're wrong. Goning straight line, and the safest, is not why we bought the S2000. You're right that their are risks in the curves, but we all should drive within our limits. Punching off the stoplight is for teenagers. That being said, I still do that myself. The S2000 is not as good as others from the start, it's the total package that is the reason we have this vehicle and it's just wonderful.

Everyone bought their car for their own use...if some people like using it as a stoplight racer, that's fine. To each his own.

"straighline acceleration" is a part of the whole 'package' ... actually it is a reasonably big part of the package. If 'stragline speed' was of no importance to you then you mighty have as well got an MX5 (Miata).

Also, like Sev said, beating someone though the twisties has very little indication of which car handles better. For starters, if I took a Civic through some twisties that I know very well and you don't know, then I guarantee you that you will loose sight of me very quickly even in an S2000. Besides that there's the driver skill and balls involved.

"Starighline" is the way you determine which car has more 'pull' ... a very important part of every perfromcance car.

Street racing on curves is very misleading. I smoked an S2000 through the curves in my Prelude. Of course, I knew that road well and was pushing it to the limit. He beat me from a light pretty bad though.

Moral of the story: Street racing does not really tell you much about how fast your car is compared to who you are racing. It does tell you who is a better or crazier driver if you get beat by say a Prelude.

Tomorrow's front page news:
Small, 2 seat convertable slides off twisty section of canyon road. Passersby find car and driver down 100 ft. ravine. Driver could not be identified due to decapitation. Head still not found but it was determined that the lone occupant was male. He had really, really BIG BALLS!
Oh, that would be LES BALLS GRAND for you, SEV.
(OK guys, don't get in a big hissy fit. This is meant to be light hearted.)

Racing off the line seems to be a real 'American thing'

I know of no other country so obsessed with street drag racing.

Im not saying it is a bad thing, just an observation.

Of course straight line acceleration is an "All-American" activity. . .

Why else would we need the NHRA

Bottomline, as long as fossil fuel exist, Americans will be obsessed with who's (car/truck/bike/snow mobile/jet ski/speedboat/etc.) is the fastest. . .
