We made this forum for...what?
I was sorry to see censorship rear its head again regarding the "Running from the cops in the 'S'" post. For crap sakes, the guy didn't even know he wasn't being chased. But that's not the point.
I've replied to 4-5 posts today that have content about ignoring the law. And I was with 25 drivers this weekend who ignored some aspect of the law. Why were you guys (and I don't mean the moderator per se) so quick to censor this guy? Don't think this was censorship? Deciding who gets the last word is exactly that! He was ably CENSURED by the group. That's more useful than shutting him down, I think.
IMHO, these things are better talked about....

I don't mean to get nosey, but you (and quite a few other people on this board I might add) don't seem to understand the legal consequences of the things you post here. For example, everytime someone video tapes themselves racing and posts it. That is not only an admition of guilt but evidence of it also. I am not saying don't go out and have fun (I certainly do) but be smart about it.
Peace.

Definately be smart about it. Closing that thread was rediculous. Yey!!! Lets sit around a campfire and sign songs and talk about "s badges" all day. God help us if there is actually a decent conversation on this board. The traffic laws are created to generate revenue and keep people in control so they are easy to single out when they step out of line which allows the law makers to create new rules for more revenue generation with little argument from the sheep (red light cameras, ect). Traffic laws are NOT created to keep people safe. People decide if their actions will lead them home safely that day. The very idea about breaking a determined speed limit and ending up having to pay money is even more rediculous. Given the conditions, I could travel at 140 mph ALL DAY, with no threat to anyone or myself. The key word is conditions. If I get caught at 140mph not only do I lose "money", I lose my right to drive, and maybe worse, like a felony charge which would hamper my life for the rest of my life. All because I was travelling at a certain rate of speed which had no impact on any part of society at all. That being said, there is a difference between speeding and driving wrecklessly. Most of the fatal and injury accidents in this world are caused because someone was driving wrecklessly in heavy traffic well within the acceptable speed limit. The cops will stick the excessive speed label on accidents to justify keeping the majority of the police officers employed writing tickets. But it's the getting caught at 140 mph that could ruin your life. So that is the decision you have to make. Run or not. Would I run? Well for starters, I put myself where it where I don't have to deal with it. If a po po officer does happen to see me enjoying my "excessive speed" in the middle of nowhere, I will be in a position where I can get away fast enough to not harm anyone or the officer. Go over to the sportbike boards and read about all the people evading cops there. There are people that actually do it for fun and write FAQs about the subject (of course it helps to have 9 second 1/4 mile times). Sorry for the jumbled rant, I just get pissed off sometimes because my beloved pastime of enjoying ultra fast sportbikes is frowed upon. Actually did get pulled over riding extremely fast with a group of other sportbikers on the country roads.. but it was ok because there was cop in our group... I guess we were acting "safe" then.
The bottom line is the best part of this country is that you can do what you want as long as it doesn't hurt other people (or yourself in some cases). We should all be glad that we're not around when someone decides to edanger other people around. I say live and let live and if it means that you hurt yourself then I guess its one less idiot that we have to worry about... no loss there.

Now this topic has got some positive ideas going around. I suppose it will end up being locked if it gets too contraversial as well. Jschmidt, Suvh8r and Integrate sure have spoken about some important factors here.
As the idea is not to support such actions but merely putting it down isn't going to get it any respect either. Now Jay, drink driving and speed are both different issues if you are to judge and put them two together to write up a report on justification and law liability, I think it's very far apart from the truth.
Certainly drink driving is not something anyone should do and definitely it is wrong and tragically sad if someone does cause an accident because of this. Obviously intoxication has nothing to do with speed itself. And by far, people who love or usually drive fast don't even drink a drop even before or after going behind the wheel. Trust me, people who speed are more responsible than most idiots on the road who seem to be driving in their own fantasy land where there is only them and them.
If speed and evading cops was to be put into a topic for discussion, it will certainly generate both positive and negative feedbacks simply because it's all up to the individual to decide. Now this is not a poll to see if it's right or wrong to do so, so why should one be reminded when they obviously know what is right and wrong?
Like I have mentioned before, how many of you have gone pass the speed limit with or without knowing? How many of you do it with or without being aware of the consequences? Fact is everyone does it at least an average of once a week or so from statistics and proven reports.
So cut the slack and if it's not acceptable, this forum should be completely shut down because all or most street encounters occurs on public roads not fantasy race tracks that everyone gets a chance to go to. If beating another car in your S2K passing the speed limit 99% of the time is right on the public roads then there is something seriously wrong with people reading and posting in this forum.
Who is there to tell them that it is morally wrong and should not be doing so? Who is there to shut down the threads when an S2K beats a typical WRX on the public roads at high speeds? Obviously no one. So if no one is doing so, I don't see why a Police evading thread should be treated with anymore but the same level of tolerance.

Takashi, I only went to the extreme on the drunk driving example to show that given "certain conditions", anything could be safe. However, that doesn't mean that anything applied in the real world is safe. Like I said, I agree with abolishing daytime speed limits on certain highways. In fact, in Montana, after the speed limit was reinstated, accidents went up. I presume that it was simply due to the fact that when drivers know there is no speed limit, they will pay more attention to what is going on around them.
On defending the closing of the cop evading thread, you have to understand that as moderators, we try to avoid large flame wars. Ace posted his story, and was very defensive when people criticized him, and replied with caustic remarks and personal insults. From there, it no doubt would have become a flame war, which is why it was locked.
