Yes and getting your license in Germany is a very strict process unlike here. When people say we should have higher speed limits like those in Germany I always think no way not with the lack of care of drivers and lack of enforcement of people blocking the highway by staying in the left lane. We have signs all around that say slower traffic keep right but I have never seen it enforced. If someone is behind you and tailgating then you should move over and let them by if you can safely do so, I have done this and have also had people let me pass and I always give a thank you wave.

I grew up in Germany and got my drivers license in the late 70’s. Cost was about 600DM, around $300 US. These days on average it’s about 2000 Euro’s. In order to get my license I had to sign up at a private driving school - class room instruction together with actual driving. The driving part consisted of a certain number of hours of city, country and Highway driving, parallel parking, etc, etc. with a driving instructor. This was also the first time I drove a car in excess of 120mph. Then came the test to get your license. Most people failed taking it the first time.
