Default Why This Forum Can Be Hazardous

I wanted to take a moment to ask you all to step back and think about the posts in this forum and to think twice before deciding to post here. This board is not a private board. It is available to everyone and read by many many people.

Here is an article in today's Newsday:

Police: Crash that killed two may have involved illegal race

BY JOHN VALENTI

July 22, 2005

State Police now believe a young Queens couple killed in a hit-and-run crash on the Southern State Parkway two weeks ago were members of a street-racing "crew" and were involved in an illegal race when the crash occurred.

"We have evidence that suggests that is a real possibility," State Police Sgt. Timothy Heins said.

someone getting into an accident is FAR different than someone posting a race encounter on the street.

if someone were stupid enough to post information about a crash that involved them, then they are probably a fast and furious ricer moron. lol.

we appreciate your concern and words of advice, so let it be a lesson for those out there. if you're involved in something that could land you in a legal battle due to an accident, then you shouldn't be talking about it on this forum, but rather with an attorney.

I'm not going to sit here and say what I do is right I have had my fair share of street races, only enough to count on 2 fingers have actually been for money or premeditated. I feel sorry for the people that stupid people hurt, were as the case in NY is a little different that both particapents were engaging in an illegal act. It was wrong to leave the scene of an accident though. That is the sad part. Something in the back of my mind tells me that someone will turn him in soon! As I agree with you whole heartedly I don't think it will ever change it has been going on since there have been cars.
As far as this web site goes not saying it hasn't happened but I have never seen a big race set on here. I mean two so called "crews" meeting up and racing for money or pinks something like that anyway thats just my opinion.........later

Racing is part of our heritage. It has always been illegal on the streets this I can remember from history learned in school. There has been racing since contests of speed were around from crawling, to walking, to running, to animals, to people, to cars, ...... The places we have to race legally are because of the street racing scene. Just because there is a legal place to go doesn't mean there will be a stop to street racing. Never has stopped it and I know it never will. So we race when the opportunity comes and we pass a judgement on ourselves as to the safety of the event.

Be safe
Pick the right time.
Organize if possible
Use a desserted industrial area access road

I am not getting into the pros and cons of racing ... I am just questioning the wisdom of public posting admissions for the whole world to read.

If there was no crime witnessed, the police aren't going to bother investigating an online post about street racing. We all know a good percentage of the stories about racing (not so much here, but on the sites with a younger crowd) are invented anyway. When there is a crash that obviously involved racing, that's an entirely different scenerio. I have no problems posting stories that involved only street racing and could never be proven true or false. I do agree with you though, I'd think twice about posting anything that involved other crimes or could be proven with secondary sources.

Having just been stopped 1.5 weeks ago in Nebraska and issued a written warning for driving 79 MPH in a 75 MPH zone leads me to believe that this country is rapidly changing in its attitude towards speeding. It is my understanding that Virginia already makes it a criminal offense to drove over 85 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. In the event that someone who posts on this board is involved in a serious accident , a smart attorney who gains access to this forum will print out any and every post ever made by the driver who was in the accident . The driver will then have fun explaining that he or she never speeds and was not speeding when the accident took place.

It is all about liability.

Were you pulled over by some sort of highway patrol, or by some local hick?

Speed traps, as well as specific areas that use them for funding, will always exist. They started enforcing the seatbelt law out here recently. While driving 1/2 mile to my friends house on 35mph residential streets, I've been pulled over three times in the last three months for such. They can't enforce everything... when funding is needed, specific violations and areas are singled out for enforcement.

Out here in California, I pass CHP while doing 75mph all of the time.... because the flow of traffic is usually 80 or better! I don't think speeding enforcement is heading any specific direction.

At any rate, once again I see your point about an attorney digging up old posts here. I guess my point is that anyone posting stories here is probably telling those same stories to his friends. Testimony from a real person would hold up much better in court than posts on an internet forum... so I think the point is almost moot.
