Hey wis, sorry to hear about your friends, just read that post. I actually just got back from my first trip ever to wisconsin for the EAA airventure in oshkosh. We stayed in a hotel in appleton, and I got to see pretty much everything between greenville and fon du lac. I actually liked wisconsin alot more than I thought I would coming from miami, and you're aboslutely right when you say there's not much competition/good drivers over there. I didn't see many sports cars, but I saw alot of serious rice sitting on stock wheels....really funny. I saw ONE stook throughout the whole week, a yellow one driving near U wisconsin in oshkosh, and I saw another one sitting in a dealer in appleton. I actually had one street encounter with some brown ford ranger, last night on wisconsin ave near highway 41 in my rental mazda protege. I still put him to shame, and then he passed me aggressively and threw me a horrible sounding rev as I was merging onto the freeway. I was like, wtf is going in wisconsin? OH well, I can see how guys like that make it REALLY easy to get girls in that area! Anyways, i'm tired as hell, just wanted to let you know that I know your area now, and I can sympathize with the street encounters!

peace

Did you enjoy the EAA show? I got to go for a day and it was great. Did you know that during the 7 days that EAA goes on.... the airport there in oshkosh (can't remember the name) is the BUSIEST airport in the world?? lol. All just because of the amount of planes flying in and out...

Yeah, see, not a lot of modified cars around here, and plenty of rice on stock engines for the most part. Competition can be slim. But that doesn't mean there aren't beasts laying in wait out there....

You should drop me a line next time you are in Wisconsin. I'd be glad to show you the cruise or race scene. And anything else you'd like to see in the area. Glad you liked our state. We also have some GREAT scenic drives right here in the area with lots of twists, turns, curves, and hills.

I used to volunteer every year at Oshkosh for the entire week and camp in the adjacent camp grounds. Throughout the 80's and 90's it has just grown too big and commerical.

So you don't like the crowds? Or you think it's gotten too "sold-out"???

Yea, oshkosh is without a doubt the busiest airport in the world. I've never seen anything like that. They have to bring in the best air traffic controllers from around the world to handle the tower frequencies and traffic coming in and out. It's 14,000+ airplanes that come in and out during the week, all of them going to the same area...ouch...It's alot of fun though, this year they had alot of cool computer technology to play with that is unbelievable. The crowds were big, but definitely not annoying. I didn't go on saturday or sunday though for that very reason. I was there mon - fri, and friday was by far the most packed I had seen it....I can't even imagine what saturday or sunday looked like over there.

Crowds I don't like, but what really scares me is how easy it is (just a matter of more money) for non pilots (and their kids) to get on the flight line these days.

I know I for one would never leave my aircraft unattended out there. Too many things that can be bent, stuffed with trash, damaged with no external signs etc.

By the way, our airport is called Whittman Field.

I suppose coming from Miami or something, the crowds don't seem annoying, but to us, well... let's just say that i keep away from the south side of town for that whole week.

As far as cars around here... nothing. Lots of college kids in rustangs who think they're all it, a fair ammount of riced out neons and eclipses... that's about it. Saw a new Tiberon on 41 while coming home from work a few days back with "P DIDDY" on the plates, though... made me chuckle.

The whole EAA thing is pretty cool, though... it's being able to see all the planes and whatever they have going on in the air anytime you look outside
