WOW! The Evo 8 is fast!
The owner of the import tuner shop in town bought his a few weeks ago. There was a few of us out driving around and he met up with us. We did a little driving and I decided we should get on the interstate.
My three faults were 1) almost full tank of gas 2) passenger that weighs about 230 lbs (I'm no help, either I weigh about 225) and 3) the top was down.
The driver of the Evo weighs in at 180 soaking wet and I found out a half hour later that he was almost out of gas. I have an AEM intake and exhaust and he is stock. On to the race...
I am leading as we get on the interstate, he is about 4 cars behind me. I wait until I see him get on the on ramp and I punch it and I notice his car lurch forward. I'm going about 45 in 2nd when I gunned it.
As I get on the interstate I see him coming up on me. I hit the rev limiter in second b/c I'm watching for cars and watching him at the same time. I only bounced once and I shift into 3rd. By this time his is less than 2 cars behind. Half way through 3rd is almost next to me and at the top of third is next to me. We shut down around then and I was like
I told him later on that if I'd had the top up I would have had him.

He should have killed you, he might not even be pushing it because it is too new. If he owns a tuner shop, he probobly has a boost controller keeping the boost down right now. The Evo 8's are in the low 13's, we are luck to even see high 13's.

The evo has the same engine that the second gen eclipses have. The only difference is the thing has a 16G turbo. I ran an evo at my local 1/8th mile track. This was my first time running my car (and almost first time launching it for that matter) so he got the jump on me. Later when I talked to him he told me he had ran his car probably close to 40 times, so I didnt feel too bad. He got me .3 seconds on our reaction time and only beat me over the line by about half a second. I think if I had a better reaction time and a little better (higher rev) launch I would have gotten him, if not just been extremely close. The evos power to weight ratio is 3108/271 = 11.469. Ours is 2807/240 = 11.696. So if you give that any credit and considering it is all wheel drive it should get beat us on the track, well in a striaght line at least.
Its not 100% true that its just an eclipse motor with a 16G turbo. Being that the compression is bumped to 8.8, hollow ?cams? and valves, a twin scroll manifold, a front mount intercooler w/ water cooling, and much more aggressive gearing, . Though it is a 4g63, it just has a few more goodies.
As far as the race goes, I think it sounds about right. Good race, can't wait until I get a chance with one.
