Default '00-'03 S2000 with the "new" gearing

I'm just wondering if anyone here has modified a '00-'03 S2000 with the tranny from an '04+ S2000. You'd basically be making a non-U.S. '04+ S2000 since the rest of the world still uses the F20C (along with the new gearing). It appears you can get 43% of the "torque at the wheels" gains of the newer S2000s with just the new tranny -- all the while retaining the 9k redline and wider VTEC range.

It's been done. Billman250 has done a few.

I am driving one as well. If you can get a good deal on one, go for it. Well worth it. I also have 4.57 gears too. Man, it moves.

Cool, I figured someone would have tried it. I would really love to see some dyno numbers! BTW, I favor this over just changing the rear gear because this new tranny would actually lower the revs while crusing in 6th gear.

Dyno numbers? Why?

I don't think you quite understand what "gears" do. You best learn more about them before you put something on your car that you have no clue as to how they work. You don't "dyno" gears.

My bad, I got confused thinking that dyno measured HP at the wheels. Well I guess they do, but the must use the gearing numbers (or some other way) to "correct" that so you just get engine power minus drivetrain loss.

While we're on the topic (kinda) would my RPMs increase at a given speed/gear if I mated an AP2 tranny to my 4.44 equipped AP1, descrease or stay the same? This is something I've given thought to to try and increase bottom end pick up.

I think your rpms will increase in the first 4 gears and in 5th and 6th, it "might" stay more or less the same. Only doing the "numbers" on a gear calculator will show you the exact differences. Search for "Reverend's gear calculator" to try and find it.

I have an '00 with 4.44s and if I ever get my hands on an AP2 tranny for cheap, I'll do it.
