Default '04 Bumper upgrade question

Yes, I did search already but cant find what I am looking for.

I need to get my front bumper repainted thanks to a dirty body shop (see here if interested https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=270902)

Anyway I figure I might as well upgrade to an '04 since the bumper is so cheap from hardtopguy. But I need to know if the existing splach guard will work? Has anyone done this and made it fit?

Thanks

RR

You will need the 04 splashguards to make it fit totally snug.

HTG sells the full retro kit for $140 I think

You can use your 03 guards without a problem....may just have to bridge the gap with a couple of zip ties or something....the 03 guards fall a little short of the bumper in a couple of places.

Actually..when I spoke to HTG they said the only difference was a couple of brackets that the 04 splashes had that the 03 didnt.

I did a search but cant find any info on the fitment.

Anyway, I have a messed up front bumper thanks to a dirty bodyshop ( see here if interested https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=270902 )

Since they are only $225 from hardtopguy I was thinking of upgrading to the '04 if it will fit my existing splashguards. Anyone know how much modding needs to be done?

Thanks

RR

I just had mine done with the 03 splas shield , and only like 1 or 2 brackets is different, you will have to trim a little of the bumper support, but Iam sure you know that.. With the 03 splad shields and 04 lip the bumper is extremely snug >>>

I put my 04 bumper and headlights on last night. I really wouldnt worry about buying the 04 splashguards for $140. If you're gonna put on a lip, then maybe it would be worth it. But I was still able to get 4 bolts on the bottom last night using the 04 bumper and 02 splashguards. Felt stable enough to me..

jumping in here.... Can i use the 00 splash guards with the 04 bumper, just bolt up what fits, and ziptie bridge the rest of the brackets that dont...and then use a oem lip or a Mugen splitter ?

....I guess so.
It would be nice if somebody who made the conversion without the MY04 splash guard to post pictures to see what is going on down there.

Is there a gap?
Is it worth buying the new splash guard?

I've done it. There is a gap, but in the year that I have been driving on mine I have not had any problems. I guess you could zip tie, but I don't see how it would help at all - that plastic shield is pretty rigid. Once you've got the bumper on, bolt up any lip you want.

I never took pictures of the underside of the car from the front, and now my '04 bumper cover is being replaced (so I can have a matching kit) so I won't be able to take pictures to help.

A word of caution that I have been giving since about a month after I converted my bumper cover is to make sure you grind down the top corners of your actual bumper:

If you don't you may end up with a "nippling" effect just in front of your headlights:

Road Rash,

Other than grinding down the inner bumper corners (about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch worth of grinding) everything else is the same as installing any other front bumper. You might want to cut the foam backing a little to make it fit, or just leave it out (like I did).
