'04 popping out of gear
I got an '04 about two weeks ago. It has less than 300 miles on it. This morning I was driving around 50 mph in 4th gear when the gearshift just popped out of gear into neutral. I had shifted into 4th a short time before but not immediately before it popped out. I engaged the clutch and put it back into 4th gear thinking it was just something odd. Within 10 seconds or so it did it again. The road I was on was in ok condition, not very smooth, so I suspect the gearshift vibrated out of position.
Any one else have this experience in an '04 or other year?

Well, i'm curious if you are fully completing the throw. Or put another way, are you sure you are fully into the gear? Is the throw for that gear less than any of the other gears or is it a bit notchy -- such that you might think you had finished the throw even though you haven't? It's rather startling to think that it is popping out of gear even though you are fully into it.
I'd recommend you call the dealer right away. That should not be happening. I never had anything like that happen to my s2000.
Good luck!

Gantra, I thought the same thing the first time it happened so when I put it back into gear I ensured I pulled it down fully. The only thing that might be different between mine and other cars is I have a different shift knob (from Rick's) on it. However, I used the same knob on my 2000MY and it never happened on it.
I remember reading about a 4th gear popout by other members here. It's not a very common problem but it has happen before. You should do a search. If my memory serves me correctly a member name "mstw" had the 4th gear popout problem.
I think that happened to me yesterday, I was in first and I swear that I was not even close to redline when all acceleration stopped and the engine reved up because my foot was on the gas. I COULD have hit the rev limiter because I am new to the car but seriously I swear I had more room to go. Only thing I can guess is that it popped out of gear. That has never happened to me before and has not happened since. The roads were fairly smooth. Humph!?!?!

This is not an unusual problem and a good number of us have had it fixed by Honda. Mine gradually got worse and would happen anytime I had no load on the drivetrain in fourth gear. I doubt it is a driver error and it can be fixed under warranty. They do have to remove the box and replace a number of parts.
I thought I remembered seeing a TSB for 4th gear pop out but where is the TSB list that S2KI used to have? I couldn't find it in the library and performing a search brought up posts with lists of TSBs but not any with images/scans of the bulletins. I wanted to see what exactly is involved in the fix.

Found the TSBs in the library.
