100 Octane Fuel
Has anyone used this stuff in their S2000 and had any performance gain?
In my area the highest octane I can buy is 91 octane. Tha owners manual calls for higher octane gas.
Is it possible to blend 100 octane fuel, in some ratio, into 91 octane fuel to increase the overall octane rating up to 92 or 93 octane?

I have actually used 100 octane unblended here in NYC we can pick it up at Sunomax. I use either this or 94 octane blended with booster regularly. There is a slight performance gain with the fuel that you can feel. Since my car is still NA the difference is not too much but I am certain with nitrous, SC or turbo it would be more noticeable. The price of 100 oct is about $4 per gallon in the off season and $4.5 during the summer months. 94 oct is at 1.85 per gallon.
I've heard you can mix premium with Toluene to increase your octane rating. Toluene shouldn't hurt your engine, since a large majority of gasoline is toluene... Toluene has a octane rating of 114 by itself...
Yep you can mix in toluene to raise the octane rating of gasoline without any major complications. However there is absolutely no reason to do this on the S2000. The ECU is programmed for 91 octane and using anything with a higher octane rating will have no affect on performance (unless you are boosted or running nos). The ECU compensates for parameters such as high temperature by retarding the ignition which is the only situation in which I could see higher octane gasoline being useful on a stock or slightly modified car. Since the ECU chooses to retard the timing based on temperature instead of detonation there would be no beneift to running higher octane fuel. IMHO you're just throwing away your money by purchasing higher octane fuel.
Octane rating is simply a rating of a fuels resistance to detonation, it is in no way shape or form a rating of the fuels power potential.

Just to be clear, Gabe, you believe the 93 octane recomendation of the Owner's Manual is in error, or at least overstating the case? I sure would like to use less expensive fuel in my s2000. Can anyone else back this up?

Make sure that it is un-leaded.
