Default 100k maintenance/service?

I'm planning to buy a 2003 GPW with 100k for $10.5k. Price to high?

What kind of maintenance/services should be done at this point? Need some questions to ask the seller about what has been done.

sounds like a nice price, i'd change all the fluids though (oil, brakes, coolant, differential, transmission, wiper fluid*)...

Don't forget air and cabin filter.

Spark plugs are due at 105k. I'd do a compression test while I had the spark plugs out for good measure. Brakes could be an issue depending on when they were last changed.

I just had my 100k done. Flushed brakes/cutch fluid, oil/filter change, plugs. I did the trans and diff. @ 90k, so I didn't worry about those. It's a good time to just check everything else over too. Check the suspension for wear. Check valve clearance too.

When do you think the clutch will need to be replaced?

When it wears out. It's really different for everyone. If it starts slipping really bad, it's probably time.

He means smoke coming from the exhaust, not the engine itself. Usually smoke is a sign of either worn piston rings or even a bad headgasket depending on the color of the smoke. I think we can all agree smoke means bad things when it comes to cars.

white smoke: condensation if it's light and right after start-up. if it's continuous, it's coolant = you need a new headgasket.

bluish/gray: oil. piston rings or valve seals.

black/gray: fuel. you're running rich. change your plugs and possibly o2 sensor.
