It would save a lot of heartache if they came up with a ECU activated solenoid gate block for downshifts based on RPM.

That way all the inexperienced drivers who try to downshift when the car is going too fast for the gear won't be able to break the car.

Or those who are experienced and simply thought they selected 4th and ended up in 2nd.

I just don't think it's that easy to implement. If it was, why wouldn't race cars have it? CART doesn't, ane even F1 (back when the shifted their own gears) didn't. These have largely "cost is not object" budgets.

I hope we never have to see pics like that again from any Honda car. Ugh! Makes you sick to your stomach.

Unhappily, that is exactly what I did a month ago or so. Was at about 80 and tried to go directly from 6 to 4. Got distracted at that moment by something my passenger did and I missed and got 2nd. Immediate HUGE over-rev and deceleration. Hit clutch instantly and apparently did not float a valve, but damaged the rear end. Drove home (100 miles +) with sound from rear that reminded me of a truck tire on concrete.

Took to dealer and they had it for 8 days, then called me and said parts back-ordered. Estimated 2-3 weeks just to get the parts.

Have not discussed w/ them whether warranty will cover. Obviously, I made no mention of how it happened.
