is 120k really that bad?
just saw a s2k 01 but has 120 k original engine no smoke etc with 02 diff.
is it that bad to get it for say $12k even if the compression is good?( i dont have the tools for leak down)
or will it be better to go with another one 01 has 75k miles no smoke , driftshaft needs to be replaced , gutted soft top replaced with hard top for $15,500?
i just want experts and pro decision as i dont know anyone who owns a s2k here.
if i were to get the earlier one at least i have $4k buffer if the engine does go out for a rebuild or something
thanks a lot

My MY00 (Berlina Black) had 148K's on it before it was written off.
It was a great car. No issues at all. I bought it used (4years old) with 56K's on it.
Never had an issues and it was always serviced at Honda. Always wondered however how good it was compared to something new.
I can say my MY07 seems a lot quicker.

I've read many threads from owners with high milage cars. Many report no issues. I wouldn't be afraid of a high milage car if the price is right and the car is in good shape for the milage. It's important that you know what your buying. Don't forget to think past the motor. How are the tires? Has the clutch been replaced? How do the break pads look? Are the miles from highway or city driving? Questions like these are important so you will have a better understanding of what you might expect in future repair bills. For example, don't expect a perfect clutch if it has never been replaced. If the clutch is original, does the asking price reflect that? Ask the owner for maint. records to verify the car has been maintained as well.
As long as there is a good service history. Mine was a one owner, always serviced at the same dealer it was bought by the previous owner that is.
I did the same.
I'd query the clutch, I know several owners who had the clutch replaced at around 80K (incl mine). I punished mine in the lead up to it being replaced. Probably got a good dozen or so agressive 9K clutch dumps.
Brakes/tyres are all less expensive consumables, I'd really worry about the engine being tired and old and the clutch being close to gone. that said a good test can confirm both.
I will re-iterate the K's all put on mine were enjoyable and worry free. I certainly did not have any reason to suspect the car as it was putting on K's was getting less of a car then it first was. I always wondered if it was still as good as a new one, given it was doing so well.

thanks for the opinion guys , so tak_one_77 , you traded yours in?
hmm well clutch though the seller said it was replaced but not an issue for me to swap it out.
i'm more concerned about the valve retainer breaking and hitting the pistong and the clunky trans and diff that worries me. can u guys show me what are the tell tale sign of those?
i know how to do a comp test but i dont know where is the fuel and ignition fuses( can anyone point that out to me too)
i dont think i can possibly do a leakdown test on the owners car since there is no air compressor there =\
hope to know from u guys who bought a used car from a privateer how u checked yours to make sure it's as good as can be.
price wise other than comparing to KBB which is the same as what he is asking , other than that i only surved the car for sale to estimate the market price for almost the same going year and mileage.
more input appreciated

I rolled my MY00.
Is it a one owner, with a nice service history? Can you arrange for a tester to come look at it?
The trashed soft top you could probably do for under 2K if you wanted to do it yourself.
If its a one owner, good history and your keen you may be able to arrange for a tester to review at the owners?
