I sent out both my Mugen header heat shield and battery heat shield out for ceramic coating by Jet-Hot (someone recommended them on this board)... and they ceramic coated both with their patented silver ceramic coating... COOL!

Stock header heat shield is on the right and the ceramic coated Mugen shield is on the left...

Here is the black battery heat shield that resides between the battery and the headers Jet-Hot coated...

It was $60.00 for both including FedEX shipping. They are really great to deal with...

THAT'S MORE THAN I CAN SAY FOR EXTRUDE/HONE WHO HOSED MY INTAKE MANIFOLD!!!!

Scott at King said they and Mugen both advise AGAINST ceramic coating their headers... I just felt that the heat shield shipped with the Mugen headers was a little light as far as heat protection... so I sent it out for coating.

Plus, I was just curious about what the coating was like... After $20,000 in modifications $60.00 didn't really bother me (the engine is apart in my garage and didn't really need its heat shields)...

Wow... that looks very cool, kinda like titanium after it ages a bit.

But, I thought the point of these coatings was to reduce the need for heat sheilds? I don't think I've seen someone coat their sheilds before. I'm sure it'll have the same effect... just interesting.

Ahh... I see. Sounds good.

I'll have to swing by and check it all out once you get everything bolted on (-:

OH, Hey Tim... It's you!!! Right now (in my garage)the car is up on jack stands with no wheels, half an engine, and most of the front cosmetics off... not a good time to visit but soon! My supercharger should be here in a week or so (I'll be installing that myself... it's a hobby --> all of my own installs/work).

Talk to you later,

Shane

Hi Shaner

Noticed your comment about your intake manifold being hosed by Extrude Hone. Is that a good hose, or bad? What happened?

Very curious since I have 2 intake manifolds which I intended to have extrude honed.

I just receiver my intake manifold back today after two months at Extrude/Hone... The inside is fantastic. It's smooth, shiny, and there are almost no casting marks.

The problem has to do with the large flange that bolts up to the engine. I sent them a perfect polished smooth flange from an almost new S2000 and I got back a flange heavily pitted... The only way I could describe it to Extrude/Hone was to say "if it were a cast iron manifold this looks like heavy corrosion"

I would have taken pics but I was so pissed that I immediately packed it back up and shipped it right back to them.

If they can keep the flange perfectly flat, I asked them to polish out the pits. I didn't want to leave it to the gasket to insure that the pits don't cause leaks... especially with the pressurized intake of the supercharger.
