1st Gear sounds like engine dropped?
I dont know if it's just my car, but everytime I'm crusing in 3rd gear or higher and comming to a stop and put it back in 1st gear, it sounds and feels like the engine or transmission dropped to the ground. Is it just me or is it how the S2000 is. I'm concerned because all of the good things I've heard about the transmission. My car is a new 03 with 3500 miles. Please tell me what the problem is. Thank you

Have you tried downshifting to second before going to first? I don't have this problem that you are talking about, but sometimes when I shift into first it has a slight "clunk" noise. Not loud enough for me to think that the engine is being dropped onto the ground, though.
Try coming to a complete stop before putting it into first. Also, push the clutch pedal in all the way, wait a second or two longer than usual, then push the stick into first gear. See if that helps...
Oh yes, mine is also a MY03 and I just passed 2,000 miles today

When coming to a stop, you should probably not be downshifting. I do it, so call me hyocrytical. I have read though, if you're not getting ready for accelerating out of a turn, then why? Use the brakes to stop.
A race instructor told me (not while I was on a course mind you) to keep it in the original cruising gear until you've reached that gear's lowest possible rpmk, and then clutch it.

I've got a new 03 with about 500 miles and it sounds like mine is doing the same thing. Slight thump shifing into first, mostly coasting to a stop. Today however I just got into the car after driving to a store and started it up, shifted into first and there it was! I shifted out and back in and it still did it. It's weird cuz most of the time the car shifts like butter. I'm going to tell the dealer about it when I take it in @ 1k for a check up. Razor, why do you say it's normal. What exactly is going on with that thump??
