Default 1st time 4 service, not good

I brought my car in today because the grind from 1st to 2nd has gotten much worse. It now happen almost all the time.
My car is a 2001 with 2200 miles on it. The service manager tells me i am not shifting properly because only 2000 models had this problem and it was corrected on 2001 models. Then i take him for a test drive, and it only happened once. Then he says to pull over and let him drive. I think it was the first time he ever drove stick. he jerked my car like crazy and stalled it once. Then he says "can i get on it" and before i could say not really he punches it. After letting him drive for 10 minutes it only grionded once for him as well. He says he will make a note of the problem and when it starts happening again to bring it back in that the car is fine and i must not be shifting properly. I have been driving stick shift cars for 6+ years now, i know how to drive stick.
I am just really pissed off at how this guy drove my car and had no clue himself at all how to drive stick. I guess i am just anal about this....

Hey, its not your fault the guy didn't know how to drive a stick.

He probably was just excited about driving an S 2000. Just hope he didn't do any long-term damge

This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard...he saw the gear grind happen with you...then he actually did it himself and says you are shifting incorrectly. It doesn't matter if it happened for you and him once or a thousand times...it proves the problem is there and that is should be fixed...I would demand they fix it...if they replicate the problem...even once...it proves there is a problem and that it should be fixed...fight it dude...!

Some members that have the MY2001 have gotten the TSB work done under warranty. I think you need to either take it to another dealer, or go higher up on the Honda food chain. You already proved to the service manager that it grinds.

Hey Thanks Cyber Logic and Marks2k.

When the service manager had it grind on him he said the engine needs to warmup, and thats why he drove it for 10+ minutes...The guy was an @sshole

I did not think about going to another dealer, always had that fear they will not give a crap since you did not buy it from them, I made an appointment and i am Taking it on monday morning to another dealer and i wanna see what they say before i call Honda...

I just wanna know in my head that the car will be fine since i will be driving it down to Florida in early november.

Thanks again.

Most of us have found that the 2nd gear grind gets WORSE when the transmission warms up . Good luck with the other dealer - let us know how it works out.

Sorry to heard about this...

I would ask him "have you driven an S2K lately" if not....I would prefer taking a ride with the master technican.

I thought the same thing about going to a different dealer. After speaking to their top mechanic, I found a new place to bring the S for service. The guy was very knowlegable and enthusiastic, loved the car, and was smiling from ear to ear just driving through the garage (I'll be keeping an eye on any test drives though).

Give it a shot.

Do a search here for gear grind. Print copies of a bunch of the posts and take them to the dealer. Let him know it is a known problem.
I took mine in this week to get it fixed, I am picking it up tomorrow. The service rep acknowledged the problem. One to the workers commented when I told him why I was there that they all do that. They know that it is a problem.
My only fear is, do they really know how to work on a transmission. I hope they don't ruin my car. I will know when I pick it up tomorrow.
