2.2L Engine swap
To clarify...I can get a new 2.2L from HTG, valve cover to oil pan, fully assembled, intake, TB, header, wiring harness...drop in condition with no miles...for a fantastic price....I'd gladly take an 03 engine, but chances are one being found of this quality is slim to none. Hence my post...
For the economically challenged...
SUPPLY...about 6 2.2L engines ready to go at a great price
DEMAND....Many 00-03 rolling chassis that need a new engine

Dont worry about the pistons speeds Bill. It's not that significant. The thing that I would worry about is the valvetrain because the part #'s are different and fuel/timing. Using a 04 ECU would mean you'd have to do something about the immobilizer.

Unless you're a Honda engineer, don't post what you don't know. Opinions yes...
$5k for an 04 engine installed, or 33k plus fees for an 04...some people can't just buy a new car when the old one lets go...

Frankly some of my more mechanically inclined Friends from this site have toyd with the idea of throwing a 00-03 ecu into an 04. I think there intentions are sheer curiosity.

Where the Evasive/Raceline project car has the car running at 8500rpms. They said they were able to get the car running up to 9000rpms but the power dropped off beyond 8500.
I also recall reading in one of the other "9000 rpms with 2.2L" type threads that Honda has a 2004 spec 2.2L S2000 with a tweaked ECU to run to 9000rpms. I have no clue whether its true or not though.
Hope this helps.
Hm, I re-read the thread I linked and it doesn't say they ran it at 9000rpms anymore. The original posted edited his first post but I believe in the original post he said that they had it running at 9000rpms ... Just thought you might have liked to talk to them to see if there was anything done to account for the extra rpms or can it run like that stock with some ECU tweaking.

IMO, If you get the F22 in to your 00-03, you are able to run up to 9k but no one can really tell if it's safe to do it. As for my expierence, another 500rpm which 8500 will be fine with stock valvetrain. Mostly Honda tuners in Japan ONLY raise the rev limited by 500 cuz if you take it to 9k, the valve springs may not handle or too much engine vibration which may cause the engine to blow up.
hmm, this is a question I have, and it's sorta along the same lines... what about swapping heads. ie 04 head on an 03, or in your case maybe an 03 head on an o4 (diff valvetrain...of course the you would also have to worry about the cams not being big enough for the job)
i dunno reading this made me curious about other possibilites, not trying to thread jack or anything

Stock rev limit is really 8200 on the 2.2L isn't it?
Of course there is no actual data to back this up, but I'm sure the 2.2 can handle 8,500 rpm. 9,000 would definitely be a stretch. Part of the problem is also whether or not the 2.2 would even make decent power revved that high. You would probably need to be looking at further tuning to take "advantage" of the extra 1,000 rpm.
Then of course there is the fact that the piston speeds on the 2.2 @ 8,000 to 8,200 are approx. equal to those of the 2.0 @ 9,000 to 9,200 rpm.
