Default 2 new owner questions...

Sorry if these are ridiculous, but after all I am new here.

First off, is the shift boot supposed to sit so low below the knob? I've seen 03's and the boot comes up to meet the shifter. If mine is low, if there something under the boot to secure it higher?

Secondly, Is there a dealer accessory or part from another model that can be installed as a fender lining behind the rear wheels?

As I'm sure you know, there is no fender lining in the rear wheel wells behind the wheel. Thus, every stone just flies up and under the car hitting the metal, exhaust, not to mention the mud + dirt that can accumulate under there. Just wondering if others have noticed and what if anything can be done.

Solution to problem 1: Get a countersunk shift knob. That used to bother the hell out of me as well, with the new knob, looks and shifts much better.
Solution to problem 2: No solution, no problem.
Enjoy the car!

In response to your first question - it looks like it is in the proper place. The Honda shift knob does look a bit high, but that's correct. If you want a shift knob that sits lower and gets rid of the gap, then check out www.ricks2k.com - get yourself a Voodoo knob

Not only will it kill the gap, it will also make shifting feel a little more aggressive!

As far as back flaps go: you are SOL ( out of luck) on a Honda accessory. If you are super worried about it, then you can buy some universal mudflaps at just about any automotive parts store or get creative at the hardware store (maybe some thin rubber that you can line somewhere in the fenderwell).

Be careful though because you could really ruin the look of your car

Good luck

Do you have any knob recomendations? (That sounds weird)
I actually like the stock knob though with the silver/leather, just wish that boot came up higher. Maybe I can get under there and zip tie it up somehow.

For the fender lining, oh well, I just thought other might have noticed it too. Kind of weird to me as I've never seen a car without that piece. I guess I'll live though.

You can ask Rick if his leather shift boot is larger than the OEM and so you could fix it that way.

Yeah I posted before I saw your reply.

I won't worry about the fenders for now. I just imagined how a rock could fly up and ding the fender from the inside. (Push out) But I suppose if no one's had problems like this then neither will I.

Couldn't be happier with the car. A little noiser and smaller than I'm used to but I'm sure I'll be very satisfied with it. I'll have to get involved in some meets to really learn all the little things about the cars.

now for my shameless plug. If anyone is looking for a 330i, I have my 02 up for sale.

If you were a bit more local, I would help you out with that 330. You'd better get used to the noise - learn to love it. The radio in my car is on when I'm idle - I just love the engine noise when the car is moving! Just think, the 2004 was made to appeal to a broader audience and part of that "adjustment" was to make it quieter.

Your not that far away in VA. I'll be passing through there on Thursday on my way to Road Atlanta.

I will learn to love the car, if I haven't already. It's just some of those things when going from one car right into another that tend to stick out at you. With time it will all be normal.

The only problems I have with the car right now involves the weak stereo, and the rear 3/4 view with the top up. The stereo I'm going to attempt to fix with the accessory rear headrest speakers, and for the top maybe look into a hardtop for the winter. (I'll be driving it year round.) I'm going to do some more research on the hardtop though first. If I REALLY don't need it, it's an easy 2500 saved, but I am willing to purchase it if I have to.

btw: the 330i has 35k and every option but NAV. Silver/blk leather.
