just noticed that the door sills have stamped the date they were made on the inside (you have to remove it to see this).
mine is marked 2/99. got my car 8/00.
guess this means that they had the first versions of the car in early '99?? at least they had some of the parts then...

I took delivery of mine in 9/99 and the stamp on the underside of the console indicates a build date of 6/99. My VIN, as my signature indicates, is #920, which varies widely with yours. Either the console or the door sill plate is marked with an accurate build date.

I'm voting for the console!

isnt month/year of production listed on the sticker in the door jamb?

If so, wouldn't whatever date corresponds with the month on the sticker be the one to believe?
