Default 2000 S2000 with 35 Miles

Soooo, I work at a Honda dealership in Melbourne, Fl and we had a customer pull into service in a gorgeous red AP1. Don't see too many of them come in for service. It was an older lady that was driving it. Being the internet sales manager I saw the customer pop up on my CRM program cause it alerts me when an s2000 comes in to see if we can talk them into trading or selling the car to us. One of the salesmen that's been there for over 15 years struck up a conversation with her and after a while he comes to the main desk and I happen to be there and ask me whats the most expensive s2000 sold and I told him about the mecum auction sold one for 71k with 900 miles or something. He goes, what would one with 35 miles go for? So apparently she bought 2 s2000's from us one in red and the other in silver and kept it in her garage ever since then. I still haven't seen it with my eyes but she wanted $50,000 for it. What do you guys think it would fetch for if this is all true?

she knows what she has. There is someone, somewhere, who will value this car as a collectible and never drive it- and that's a shame, really. I don't know that I want to be friends with someone who does not drive their s2000. Maybe there is something being able to boast to the world that you have an 18 year old car with 35 miles on it- but I can't respect that.

I sure hope she's kept up with the maintenance.

There are a lot of rich folk who buy supercars as conversation pieces that dont even know how to drive them. Ive heard a few stories like this from a few people who have some well-to-do friends. I agree though - cars like these are meant to be enjoyed - and I suppose at some point this car will be ... just not by her.

They have two of them; and it was purchased to be resold one day. This car will not go for a penny less than their asking price.

<<< Does not want. Only wants cars he can drive. Good luck to her, though.

Some people will think this was super shrewd but not really. Lets say she paid about $34,000 plus over time that total about $37k total investment to buy, pay tax, title, and some level of basic insurance. Over the course of time she had it, if it were to get $75k at auction, whoopie! She earned about a 4% return over nearly a 20 year period. She could have bought bonds and earned that much, and well more in stocks.

The drummer of Pink Floyd was on The Grand Tour and he said he paid about $35k a long time ago to buy some Ferrari that Clarkson said would now fetch $30 million. THAT is a good investment.

Give that S2000 another 20 years in the barn and then ask again.

If she was smart she would have been paying attention to Porsches over the past 10 years.

I was in a Porsche dealership recently and the salesperson was pointing to different models as tier cars - no discussion about actually driving them, just using them as investment pieces to trade up to more valuable Porsches... sigh...
