Default 2001 S2k for $24000...CarMax...is that a rip?

I'm looking into a 2001 S2k for $24000 through carmax, but I was wondering if I should hold out. The price seems a little too steep, but its GPW on Red, and thats my favorite color combo. Theres only 11k miles on it. I need to go through a dealer to get an S2k because I'm also trading my car in for it. Advice please.

you can get 02-03 model for that price. Only good thing is the low miles.

Try our For Sale/Cars forum. You'll have better luck. Most 01's are below 20k, even low miles.

So he did. I didn't notice that at first.

My advice would be to sell your car privately, then buy the S. If for whatever reason that isn't possible, keep shopping and be willing to travel a bit. Also keep in mind that some dealers might offer you a better price on the S, but will give you less for your trade to make you feel like you're getting a deal on your purchase.

See what carmax will give you in trade, then shop some other near-by dealers. Just keep in mind that a dealer will always charge you more for their used car than you would pay privately (for a similar vehicle). Not worth the price difference to me, but it may be worth it to you.

We got our 02' S2K for $25,800 @ carmax with 19,000 on the clock. Not the best deal, but it is a hard to find combo (GPW w/all red int. + low miles). My buying experience at Carmax was extraordinary. I didn't mind not getting the best possible deal (but still a good deal, IMO) due to the great buying experience. Not pushy, no worrying about haggling, pleasant staff. No amount of money can guarantee you those things.

I'd say look around a bit, especially on Carmax's website if you're still shopping with them and see what's available. If not, it's still a decent deal IMO.

Too high IMO.

Bought my 02 in April w/ 11,000 miles on it for $23,500.

I also like the 02 for the rear glass window.

Just my .02

I just sold my old Nissan Maxima to CarMax...they gave me a very good price for it. (about $1700 over KBB wholesale!) While I was there I looked around at their prices on cars....everything seemed REALLY high to me. I came to the conclusion that CarMax is a great place to sell a car but a terrible place to buy one. Their whole "no-haggling" thing is BS. Their prices are on-par with or above other dealerships and they won't negotiate. Yes they have the whole no-hassle thing going and they guarantee their cars, but I think those are just gimmicks.

IMO, SVT_Chia got ripped off, and so is the car you're looking at. Check the NADA and KBB values. Keep in mind....you can get a BRAND NEW '04 or '05 S2K for around $30-31K if your negotiation skills are good and your timing is right. You'll also most likely get a much better interest rate on a new car than a used one.

Hrmm...thanks for all the info guys.

I would sell my car privately, but the car just doesn't sell. Is there anyway to change out the plastic diffuser for a glass one?
