Default 2002 3rd gear notch?

just trying to gauge that I am not alone for 02' with a 3rd gear notch. It is odd, for the first 5 minutes, when the tranny is cool, I don't have the notch but after the tranny warms up, I will. It is only on upshifts too, never on a down shift. It feels like something is hitting the shifter, not a grind, not a crunch.

Sometimes if you hesistate a half a second before putting it into 3rd it helps reduce the notch or goes in smooth

Yep, have that same problem in my '02 also. When I go into 3rd gear, it's like there's a clunk sound and it's hitting something. I also have the famous 2nd gear grind also. The 3rd gear "clunk" seems to go away for me as the car is warmed up. It doesn't bother me as much as the grind though - more embarrassing to grind, heh I told the Honda dealership and they told me if it gets worse, then bring it back in. They recommended changing the tranny fluid first though. I have around 4,000 miles on my car so far.

Don't have the notchy feeling, but the 2nd grind is starting to show up in the morning. I'm kinna used to it now since it goes away once the car is warm up.

The car seem to chuck alot when going 1st to 2nd, no matter how slow or smooth I let off the clutch it still chuck. Quite embassing when there's people beside you.

I have exactly the same problem with upshift to 3rd on my '02, however it seems to get better when the transmission is warmed up/there is more miles on the car.

Anyone talked to dealerships about it?

Mine is a 2001 model and it does the same, I get the little clunk as though I have hit something. It seems to happen if I shift too quickly and if I wait just a fraction of a second it doesn't seem to happen. I originally thought I was a bad driver

Not even 600 miles, and the infamous 2nd-to-third notch for me, too. Warm or cold (doesn't get very cold here this time of year), unless I make a conscience forward-right-forward motion of the shifter, or a slight pause in neutral, it feels like it catches on something going into third.

I agree, mine happens irrespective of whether it is warm or cold

Yeah, I got the same on my brand new 02', my firend got one last week with the same symptoms, I can feel it when shifting into first also, it's like a thump sound/feel. Anyone have problems later down the road with this?

With about 3000 miles, I still feel the 3rd gear 'gritch'. It gets better when warm. I've found that a little rev-matching on upshifts minimizes it. Also, hesitating a little minimizes it, too. The feel is exactly the same as my '92 Prelude that developed the 3rd gear 'gritch' after about 125,000 miles - feels like a synchro not quite doing its job.

1-2 shift is and has always been smooth as silk (except for twice that I shifted badly and ground a little! )

My 1st to 2nd is fine now, mostly smooth but the 3rd gear gritch is getting on my nerves. It is funny that it is less for you guys when your tranny warms up but when the tranny warms up for me it gets more pronounced. Shifting from 4th to 3rd is silk though, weird
