Default 2002 S2000 or used 2000 S2000?

Hey guys, it's cool to join such an informative group of S2000 owners. Well, I just saw the S2000 in person the other day and was blown away! I've seen it before in brochures but never thought the car would look that awesome in person! I thought it was another Miata lookalike in the pics. But to my surprise, this is truly one fine piece of machine! So the moment I got home, I was like, I want an s2000! But it is kinda expensive. So my question was, should I buy the brand new 2002 S2000 or should I buy a used 2000 S2000? I know there's been changes, but is the 2000 model nice enough to buy used? I saw one for 25,000 grand the other day with 25,000 miles on it. I would appreciate it greatly if any of you knowledgable experts could give me some advice.

I don't have all the money to buy it off you at one time. I'd have to make payments. How much were you offering it for?

There's not a huge difference between the 2000 and the 2002. A 2000 S2k won't have an aero screen, glass rear window, a few chrome accents, tweeters & the clutch is a bit different. If money is not an issue, obviously the 2002 is awesome, but if it is...go with a used one. IMHO.

I would have to agree with HardtuTame. The rear window change alone was worth buying new. If money is that much of an issue buy a used 02'. The glass rear window is key!

the rear window is what sold me along with clutch issues i have heard about the pre 02s.

However, there are plenety of 00, 01 and 02 used for sale at excellent price. Get one today and enjoy.

Hey thanks guys. Looks like the rear glass is more important than I thought. And there isn't even a clock in the 2000 model. What's up with that. How are we supposed to know the time? Look at our watch everytime! A 30,000 car should always have the time

If you are planning to keep your car longer (3yr+), I would say get the '02.

If you may trade it in for another car in a year or so, get an used one.
