isn't it around that time that honda come out with new transmission oil for improved shifting?

I don't know if any part numbers changed inside the transmission or not?

I think in 2004 the gearboxes attained carbon fibre synchromeshes

not carbon fiber as in a carbon fiber hood. that stuff will be DESTROYED in a transmission

Definitely carbon something, but i'm sure it was carbon fibre (as there are plenty of different types).

Definitely changed to make them more wear resistant

I think for 2002 Honda addressed the 1-2 grind, but it was a minor update.

^even if it was, a '2002' branded Model Year s2000 may have actually been manufactured in 2001, just fYi

They started construction of my 2002 in Dec. of 2001. If you really want the date, I can look it up.
