Default 2003 Hard-Top Install

I am new to the forum. I just bought my s2000 two weeks ago-'03 Silverstone Metallic. I ordered the har-top also. The dealer charged me 3K for the top. They had told me that the installation and harware was included.
They called me today and said that it is ready to be picked up. They said that the install wasn't included, but that the hardware was. This drives me crazy. I thought that I was so careful about choosing who to buy this car from and what i was going to pay.
I guess my question for the forum is:

Is paying $500 for installation of the hard-top too much money? If I am mechanically inclined, is it really that tough?

I live in Irvine, CA. Any advice or guidance is appreciated.

Thanks!

Do NOT pay $500 for the install!!!! First off, I believe most dealers include the install in their price. If they originally said that it was included, I'd put my foot down and make them do it. Or get a couple of hundred bucks back on the price. OR, get all your money back and order one from Hardtopguy. He has a group buy going for them pick up only in Cali. right now.

That being said, if you decide to keep the one from the dealer and they try to charge you for the install, just do it yourself. The instructions are availible online and are very easy to follow. I did mine in about 2 hours. You'll need a helper for the last few bits to help you get the top on the car, but otherwise it's not a difficult process.

Thanks for the advice. I asked them for a refund. 20% restocking fee.
No problem though. I don't mind doing it myself. Would you happen to know where to get those online instructions?

Try this.

Took me about 2 hours to install mine. You'll be so glad you didn't pay to have it installed once you're done.

You are buying at a BS dealer. Install is a breeze. Get the top from Hardtop Guy. Special going on for a couple more days. He will ship to where you want.

Thanks for the instructions peiceofcurb. I have just printed them out and am about to review them.

FSures: Yeah, I had heard of the Hardtop guy, but I thought that the installation was included so it just sounded more convenient to get it through the dealer. The dealer also claimed to have it in stock. Nothing seems true.
I did get the car itself for a great price, so I am not that as$ed out.
thanks for the advice.

How can they charge you a 20% restocking fee for something that you haven't taken out of stock yet...have you? Get your money back. I guess it just depends how much hassle you're willing to deal with, but they're screwing you hardcore. Have you spoken to the owner of the dealer yet?

Say you want a refund and get it from the groupbuy for the L.A. area from the hardtop guy...only $2600...I think we only need one more buyer to get this groupbuy thing off the ground

Actually, I thought the group buy was already underway! I paid my $500 deposit and I think they were going to be ordered on the 12th?

Anyway, you should have just gotten it from Hardtopguy. Like Saint_Spinner said, it's only $2600 (plus the install kit, which is $138). So it would have cost you $2738 total, no taxes or delivery fees. At the pick-up sites, I bet you'd also be able to find someone willing to help you install the top. From what I've heard, it's not that hard. Good luck!!

Thanks. If anyone is in the Irvine area and wants to help me, believe me, I will not turn you away.
J/K. I should be able to do it. I looked at the directions from pieceofcurb and it doesn't look that difficult.
