2003 tranny problem - pops out of 4th gear while driving
Picked up my NEW 2003 S2000 12 days ago. When driving around 40 mph (easy), it has popped out of 4th gear and into nuetral. Brought it in and they want to replace the tranny at the honda dealer. This scares the beejeeebers out of me.
Anyone had similar problem? Anyone have advice?

I have a new 2003 that I bought about a month ago and no problems. I have 2000 miles on it already and broke it in easy. (a.k.a. no revs over 5000 for first 650 miles and then 1000rpm increments for each 100 miles up to 1000 miles)
My MY02 had the problem of popping out of 4th. I took it to the dealer (after notating every time it happened) and they fixed it under the TSB. This problem was supposed to be fixed for the 02's and above, but I guess not.

Many car companies like to have representative defects brought back to the manufacturer and broken down for analysis. It is possible that they were looking for someone with this problem, and yours was chosen. The car manufacturers closely track their warranty claims, and have a strong incentive to prevent their occurrence. They'll ask questions like, "How can this component be designed differently to prevent us from paying for claims like this?" Besides cost, there is the intangible expense of dissatisfied customers and perceptions of poor reliability. I've worked for several suppliers in the auto industry for quite a while, and warranty claims review meetings are commonplace.
My '01 has done this a couple times since I've owned it. I thought it was something that I'd done (foot on clutch), but yesterday it happened again when my foot was on the dead pedal. It's not exactly comforting when it slipd into neutral while rounding a corner. I am going to make an appt. for next week to get it checked out.
