honda is conservative? i wouldn't think so considering they sold a car that didn't have any AC or power anything and still cost $25k (98 Integra R)!

Honda is considered to be pretty conservative among the Japanese car makers. They usually don't do anything too radical (with their mainstream cars).

Another thing to consider with tires and wheels is that if that wheel is larger and the tires are wider, then it will take more horsepower to operate.

the only benefit of going to a larger 17" wheel is if the brakes are also larger. Otherwise, you're just carrying more rotational mass (further from the center too) and weight.
