I don't have a hardtop so I can't compare, but I've read at least one source that complained about the noise levels with the hardtop in place:

I guess I'll have to find someone with a hardtop to take me for a ride so I can experience it firsthand.
I'd have to disagree with that "noise" review. It may have been a product of poor installation. I believe some adjustment can remove the "wind noise".

Its much quieter, and comfortable with the hardtop on.

Ok, how is climbing in the car with a hard top any different than with the top up???

Also, I was under the impression the S2000 had VTEC not i-VTEC. And, from what I have read, i-VTEC is what has variable valve timing. VTEC just has the 2 stage valve lift.

Also, granted I drive a AP2, this statement is rediculous:
"The Honda is a stone in first gear until the VTEC crossover at about 33 mph, at which time any cop loitering nearby will wonder where all the noise is coming from. "

What made you change that impression?

I have a hardtop question. I don't own a hardtop and never see one in person.

Can the hardtop be easily stolen? I mean can someone snap it off quickly from outside the car and steal it?

Only by getting into the car first, so no. There are 2 internal levers just back of the doors that lock it into place, and the front strikers (same as the softtop uses) need to be unlatched. If they break your window, then I guess they could do it.

Thanks for the explanation.

If so, would you say the hardtop give more security than the soft top?

I would think so, since slashing the softtop is easier. But of the thief wants something in there, he'll get it regardless.

I didn't buy a hardtop right away, but there came a time when hardtopguy had Spa tops for $1800 plus shipping. I couldn't turn that down, and couldn't be happier with my top.

Wind noise is reduced, rear visibility is better, and I just like the looks of the OEM hardtop.

The S2K is MUCH quieter with the OEM hardtop on when compared to the soft top. The difference is so dramatic that it doesn't require any special sound-measuring equipment. I simply cannot imagine how anyone who has driven with the hardtop and the soft top in the same car could claim otherwise. To put the difference into perspective, it is as dramatic as the difference in noise when you drive your S with the soft top up and the windows up as compared to down. The noise myth about the noise-level with the hardtop might be because it is possible to hear road-noise with the hardtop on that would be concealed by wind-noise with the soft top. The hardtop does nothing to block noise transmitted from below the car (much less than wind noise), and certainly does not amplify that noise. If you'r in So. California, stop by Loma Linda and I'll give you a ride in my S. You'll be impressed by the quieter ride with the OEM hardtop.
