Default 2005 S2K - Questions and a hello!

Just a quick note to say hello! I am tentatively picking up a 2005 White S2K with 15,000 miles or 25,000Km on it on Thursday. I drove the car, but only the equivalent of 2 blocks, and the car seemed smooth. I got it into Vtec, and everything seemed great. Car is accident free, 1 owner, and then brought into Canada. No marks on the car, all vin stickers present on all panels. Only warranty work done was a radio, speaker and ignition, all under Honda warranty. Anything that I should be cautious about before making this purchase in the next couple of days?

Sound too good to be true? Engine is super quiet at idle, and throughout the rev range.

Spending some pretty serious cash on the car, and it will not have a warranty, as Honda will not warranty a car in Canada from the US. so I would like to be sure that this is a smart decision on my part. PS, anyone know what the valet key looks like? I had a black key that wouldnt open the trunk of the car, and never thought about it till later. I wonder if the car has to be re-keyed due to the ignition switch change over? Maybe it was a valet key? I thought they were grey.

Many, many thanks in advance!!!!

My main key is black.

I think the car has been re-keyed.

the valet key on a MY 2005 is grey. the second key (which also comes with the same remote as the primary key) is black (doesnt have the silver S2000 logo). 2005 model comes with three keys total.

i recently imported my s2000 from LA into canada when i moved back here... where are you located? im in TO. what is ballpark price you are looking at for this car?

I dont have the valet key anymore, and i cant remember if it opened the trunk or not. i'll check tonight to make sure the second key (the black key) can open the trunk. either way, he should have the original s2000 key with logo. it's the BOMB!

Im essentially in TO. I work in Scarborough, and the car is at Prestige Motors. 29500cad. all in plus taxes.

I know that honda changed the ignition switch under warranty just before it came to canada, but it eludes me why they wouldnt match everything! Im really hoping this ends up a good car!

Thanks for all the replies so far guys!

Valet key is grey... kind of squarish looking.. and no, it doesn't open the trunk (at least i don't think it did).

Go to your Honda dealer and ask them to make you another key. They can make the key based on your vin number.. if it produces another key, your car has been rekeyed (at least that would be my guess).

If you have an issue with warranty work, just bring the car back down to the states and have a US Honda dealership do the work.

Damn, I didn't get the valet key. I only have the main and second key. Bastard, he held back on me.

Back on the topic.

The second key does open the trunk. It works like the main key, but does not have the S2000 silver symbol on it.

The valet key does not open the console nor the trunk. It's only for ignition.

It says that in the owner's manual.

Ok, so here is a wild question! With the car being a US VIN'ed car, CAN a canadian dealer make the key!?!?

ask the dealer - i dont see why they couldnt make the key. i imagine there is a central North American shop that makes all the keys anyways (totally speculating). if you like the car i wouldnt let the key hold you back. have you considered importing a car yourself? it's very easy and you would save money. i dont see how your saving money by buying a US car in canada? is this car listed at the same price as a comparable CDN s2000? seems like it.

You should take a look at the soft-top, make sure there aren't any wear holes behind the driver/passenger headrests. Since you're not going to get it under warranty, you wouldnt want to have to replace the hardtop out of pocket in a month or two...

Soft top would be the big thing. Otherwise, just get a mechanic to check through the car. Good luck!
