Default 2007: Finally broken in, impressions

I recently got an S2k (thanks to the Costo pricing drop I could justify flash) and have finally finished the break-in. Lurking the group and reading the FAQs on this site was a huge help in figuring out which MY and what the main problems were with the car.

I have owned a 240z, 323 gtx, 4kq, A4tqms, Evo VII, M3 E46, and now the s2k. I prepped a couple to SCCA stock, and CSP, but never won a regional, so that is some quantitative measure of my skill (although I never lost to american iron).

My impressions:
The stock tires are remarkably good for off the shelf tires. I want to hate them, but they just keep delivering. I am shocked that they haven't chunked yet given the workout and full tread. Pretty dang good for a street summer tire.

VSA: I was a little ambivalent about VSA given my M3 experience (dead pedal -blows), but I'm not reallly getting into it that much and it is pretty smooth.

Brakes: The stock brakes are really good! Good initial bite, good release, and they don't overheat in a sporty drive (as opposed to the M3 stock crap/but not nearly as good as the Evo binders). My favorite floating caliper setup so far, although I can see how there would be track issues. The rears don't feel like the balance is quite there, it does seem a bit too biased to the front.

Chassis: I read the chassis "windup" article in the magazine comparison, and I disagree. This chassis is really stiff for a street convertible. It is a lot stiffer than my 240, 323 gtx with stiffened floor pan, and slightly stiffer than the M3 convert. Sure it could be stiffer, but it is hella stiff.

Balance: It definitely has had the oversteer taken out, but it is a secure unknown road car stock. I have not had to worry about the end snapping around when I'm too abrupt on the gas pedal. The A1 would have been a treat with VSA to learn on and then a more neutral driver, but that can be fixed.

Headlights: Great!

Cons: No lighted door or ignition keyhole. Come on... No steering wheel adjustment. No seat angle adjustment. Soft-top cover kludge. The fact that it makes everyone want to race...

Gas mileage: Not a real issue, but I am getting 24 mpg (USG) mixed city/hwy.

All in all a great car stock and a true sports car. Thanks for all the advice.

Cheers,

Grats!!

Btw...the 323 GTX was an awesome car. My dad had a 323 GT with a lot of HKS stuff in it, and I used to love beating the snot out of it. That little sucker would beat Z28s and T/As back in the day!

to the OP:
what was you costco pricing if you don't mind me asking? I have seen a similar thing with sams club pricing but I have to get quotes from dealers and since I'm still a little over a month from buying, I don't want to deal with dealers right now.

Try www.carsdirect.com if you want a smooth transaction. The price on a 2007 S2K in Atlanta is $28,174 +TTL (no haggling necessary).

i love the car too...carsdirect is the best place to find current market prices on most cars and i have used them, so have friends, i recommend it as a smooth process and competative price. they even returned an error in $ the dealer made to me afterward. they also arrange delivery so that i did not ever go to the out of town dealer, it was close enough, but i liked that as well.

The Costco price was the lowest I could find 29,850 and I got an extra 1k because the dealers want to move the 07's before the 08s and there is some holdback right now.
