Default 2008 S2000 clutch assembly replacement

Anyone have an idea on the current cost of a clutch assembly repair/replacement, and, the best place to get it done in Eastern Mass or Rhode Island? I have a dealer estimate for over $5k.

Should cost less than half that.

Personally I'd rather have someone that has done it before than any shop that hasn't.

Personally I'd also never bring my car to a stealership, even just for an estimate. Can't trust 'em, combined with incompetence and hubris.

I'd even prefer a good diy S owner that has has done it before over any shop that hasn't. A shop just wants to get it done as quickly as possible. Our clutch has a few unique requirements for what grease used where and how much. Things that wouldn't matter much on other cars, that with ours do. Easy for a shop to breaze past those.

Suggest try posting in the New England sub forum for recommendation of shop or go to diyer in your area.

Default Clutch replacement

Your best option is to go to Billman , set an appt with him take car over via ferry from new london ct to orient point ny then a 45 mile drive top down
he will do it while you wait you can watch and its done correct and far cheaper you might just learn something about your car . make a day of it . better yet source all the OEM parts yourself change everything And never worry about it again .NEW flywheel ,pressure plate ,friction plate throw out bearing ,clutch release bearing guide .pilot bearing comes installed in new flywheel . done once done right .and while you there get the valves adjusted .still cheaper than the STEALERSHIP .

In your location, I would follow trackmagic's advice and tale it to Billman.

Billman also offers a once-over inspection. He'll do a very thorough check of all relevant S issues/concerns for your model year. All the potential things that could be wrong or starting to go wrong, and best course of action, if any.

Most knowledgeable mechanic on these cars on this or any other Continent.

If it’s feasible to have Billman do it, simple choice!

Smile Billman Onceover

I took Trackmagic's advice, caught the ferry and enjoyed the drive to Billman for his onceover incl TCT. Wow! It was WELL WORTH IT!!! My 2008 S2000 has approx 153k miles on it and has never driven like this. Got an education on the car, enjoyed the time spent and have a car that I'll keep forever. My concern for my clutch remains but with B's tlc, it seems like I have considerable time left to enjoy. His slight, but incredibly beneficial modifications to the factory specs clearly come from his familiarity with the vehicle and his background. Message him to schedule an appointment. If he's available, it is worth the wait.
