It's true, I drove it home a quarter-century ago! And yes, I still own it, and still drive it!
Now for a little perspective.
In Sept 1999:
- Win95 and WinNT dominated home and business computing, respectively
- I'd just gotten my first cell phone. It was a flip-phone, and voice-only (not even text!)
- Most TVs for sale were still analog CRTs (4:3 aspect ratio, 240 lines)
- I was still two years away from getting my first digital camera (3.1 Mpix, baby!)
- I was a year away from getting my first DVD player (embedded in a PS2)
- Google Inc. was a promising start-up; GMail was still 5 years away
and, um...oh yeah:
- It was the 20th century.
One of my first pictures (and probably the last time I ever used the tonneau cover):
Feel free to reminisce here about your S2000, how the world has changed, or anything else.
What's your current mileage on your S2000? Are you still in Gardena? I bought my 1992 Honda Accord wagon at Gardena Honda. I got a great deal because nobody wanted a 5-speed wagon. I put 100,000 mi on that before I sold it.
My first (of three) S2000 was a 2001 Silverstone I bought in Palmdale, California in March 2001. I was happy to get it at list price because I had a neighbor who paid $5,000 over MSRP for his exact same car. When I drove it home to Acton from Palmdale I put the top down and was thrilled because I didn't even realize it was a convertible. I was just a Honda fan, with two kids, a 13 and 11 years-old, and when I saw it at Robertson Honda of Palmdale I was drooling. At the time I was driving in 1998 Odyssey van. The 2001 S2000 was the fifth new Honda I bought, after a 1982 Prelude, a 1987 Accord 5-speed LXI, a 1992 5-speed Honda Accord wagon, and a 1998 automatic Odyssey van.
Fast forward to September 2024. My kids are 37 and 36 years old. I'm happily divorced and still a Honda car girl although I now own a 2025 BMW X5, in addition to my 2005 Acura NSX, 2007 S2000, 2015 Honda Crosstour and 2017 Acura NSX. I bought the 2025 BMW X5 in June and then sold my 2017 Honda Pilot. I'm disappointed in Hondas now days.
