i stopped at the ford dealer to look at a Salen Mustang (it was pretty damn nice *looking*). it has 18*9's with 295's on the rear. i didn't look at the fronts.???

they did seem to bulge a bit.?

The guy told me how it was a rocket. I pointed to the Stook and said that mine was faster although only a 2 seater. He really didn't beleive me.?

i guess if you can put a 295 on a 9" wheel, i could get 275's on my 8.5's???

You can if they're 60 series tires. The taller the sidewall the narrower the rim you can get away with. Think of the limiting factor as the sidewall angle. A shorter sidewall must be pinched to a steeper angle to get down to the same width rim.

Scot,
You were wrong.
A Saleen Mustang would blow the freaking doors off an S2000.

It also costs over 50k.

John,

this one was a coupe and *only* cost $35k and had no engine mods. Could it have been something else other than a saleen? I am pretty sure it wasn't a Stillen.?

I will swing past again today for fun.

The S281 is just basically suspension, wheel, tire, and cosmetic mods...

I dont think there is any increase over the 260hp. The That car would lose to an S2000, due to its heavier mass...

you can however option it up with mods to make it faster, but really it still is a Mustang. Hmm, 40 grand on a car...

Corvette or Saleen? Seems like a no-brainer to me

Also, the Ford dealers sell something like a Roush Mustang that I think is in the same price range. I think C&D did a test on one and got like a 13.5 @ 105 (or something like that). It was still slower than the Vette, cost as much, and was Supercharged. I also recall that it didnt handle that great.

I think if I was a Mustang fan, I'd just buy the 32v Cobra and stick a blower on it. Cheaper than the Saleen, faster, and with the independent rear suspension, it probably handles a tad better too. Live axle is great for drag racing, but if you've ever taken a corner in a live axle car, its not nearly as confident as an IRS car...

Scot,

what were you doing at a Ford dealer?

John,

you are thinking about the SR351 or S351. I think the S351 is a pretty quick car, while the SR351 almost borders on excess. I think that car was as quick in the traps as the C5 (I think, a bit quicker actually) and it was due to the fact that there was wheelspin galore, otherwise it would have been faster in the traps.

for about 40k, I guess the Saleen is decent if you want some exclusivity. I personally think the Saleen was more exclusive in the previous body style... atleast until everyone started buying the Saleen wing for their regular 5.0s.

I was just checking out the Saleen website...

I love the load of BS about resale value and pricing. 48k is the MSRP for a Vette? Maybe a Z06, in which case it blows the Saleen out of the water...

and low resale on cars like the Boxster? Hmm, cars that were stickering at 40k new and still sell for close to that after 3 years...

Looking at the website closer...

on one page, it says the S281 costs 29999, another page says 31999...

someone should proofread the Saleen website for accuracy... rather than selling the load of BS they are...

Yeah,
I must me thinking of the R model.

I read a review of that Saleen a few monthd back in R&T I think.

It was as fast as any car out there, but ran over 50,000 smackers.

Saleen has renamed some of their lineup

the SR is now like some 150k insane Mustang, while the S351 is the hot production based car.

I thought the SR351 used to be a blown 351 while the S351 was na...

anyhow, the car we are talking about is like 475hp.... really crazy.

call me an idiot!!! ROUSH MUSTANG!!!!

I stopped again today.. fronts are 265/40/18's
backs are 295/35/18's!!! all on 18*9 wheels (i did
look at the markings on the wheels to confirm)

I think the only mod engine wise on a Roush is the
noisy sidepipes.

Sorry for confusion..... How the hell did they get
295's on a 9" wheel???

Just got home from the Detroit auto show (sucked this year) and saw Saleen selling a mustang with a good bit of engine mods plus the normal cosmetic touches for 34k. Not a bad deal.

I also saw the S2000 with the hardtop in person for the first time at the show. All I can say is "uck". My worst fears were confirmed. The stook looks like a miata with the hardtop on. Count me out.
