Common occurence. Goes away as you drive and warm her up more. No worries.

I won't call it 'grind', but definitely not smooth, it's common.

it's a pain in the ass. you think they would've had it fixed right after the 2nd gen. i dont remember the ap1 grinding in 2nd gear though...matter of factly i think the ap1 shifted better. the ap2 seems to hesitate, plus you have to make sure you are all the way thru the shift gate. even my old teggy shifted like butter.

I had 2 Ap1s and both do it. All shift are crystal clear, but when driven hard and being redlined, from first into second it's a nightmare. There is a sort of resistance in the middle of the shift, the syncroch do not line up fast enought and if you shift fast, well you grind.

Hey Suzukali, I can't believe finally some other people are posting questions about this. I've driven dozens of cars...most of them very hard too. But, I've never felt a second gear that was this stubborn. If you wait just a split second after lifting off the gas, it will go in very smoothly. But this kinda defeats the whole 0-60 mentality. I really thought it was just me!!! Thanks for the clarification. I've been told there is a Tech Service Bulletin on earlier models (00-01), and I also heard that the dealer has rebuilt/replaced some trannys. Noone has confirmed it for the later years though. It's so embarrassing though, when you pull up to race someone and they pull on you in second after you grind the hell outta the gear. Sucks. I fret about this atleast twice a day.

Yep i feel this grind too. I dunno why though because when i first test drive the car, I didnt feel it but after a couple hundred miles i feel it more. But after its warm its not so noticable.

To make it less noticable when its still cold I usually shift to neutral first and then engage second. That seems to reduce the 'grind'
