Default 2nd Speed ticket in S2k. Lying Cop

Got my second speeding ticket in my s2k today. The first one I was on the highway going with the speed of traffic. I didn't think it was fair but anyways....

Tonight was total crap though. I was about 2 miles from my house with my wife coming back from a movie. I was going 54 in a 45 zone. My radar went off when he gunned me. I slowed down just a tad but I didn't think he would pull me over.

He pulled me over but then said he clocked me at 64 in a 45. I told him no disrepect but your radar must be off. My wife even got into it with him. He just said license and registration, and then came back with the ticket for 64 in a 45 zone. It was a local sheriff and he was a real jerk about it.

The thing that bothers me is that I am 100% sure that my speedometer was on 54. I wonder if the guy can't read numbers.

I will call my lawyer tomorrow but this is crap. A movie that shoudl have cost me 14 bucks for two ended up costing me 264 with the 250 it will cost for the lawyer fee.

What a disgrace, don't they have better things to do? I seriously ponder ... With all this chaos going around in the States.

There would be even more chaos if a serious criminal offence like this was allowed to go unpunished...

i got pulled over recently as well, and the officer treated me like some punk kid. i was lucky, cuz he only gave me a fixit ticket for not having a front plate. he was incredibly rude.

Before you get a lawyer, try reading this site.
I know that it's mainly for CA, but it might help you avoid the legal fee.

That sucks. It definitely sounds like his radar gun wasn't calibrated, or he was just lying about your speed. You can always ask for his radar gun calibration records.

Good luck fighting the ticket.

Hey Dean,

Check your speedo. Mine does run @ 6% high, I have a letter from Honda stating that +/- 10% is acceptable. Therefore, If everything is off (your speedo and his radar gun) in the wrong direction then you could be close to 64MPH. I checked mine with my K-15II, @ 106 MPH, I am at only 100MPH. Your could be the reverse.

Remember!!! Do not plead guilty to anything over the speed limit. ie. " I was only doing 54mph, that IS speeding. Just like 46 exceeds 45." Let a lawyer do the work and dont accept any thing from the lawyer except, getting it completely dropped. no PBJ.

I did not plead guilty to speeding. I told the cop I believe I was going a safe speed within the speed limit. When he told me 64 then i said you are way off. It didn't matter.

I feel like this is a S2000 tax. I think they figure you are going to get it reduced anyways so they go ahead and mark it up.

And by the way, cops do NOT have to show you their radar in NC...

As for the PBJ, I know not to get that because it is terrible if you get another ticket after a PBJ then the previous tickets to go against you.

I talked to the lawyer who handled my last ticket and he said that since I had one reduced to a non moving violation that he thought the best he could do was to have it reduced to a two point violation which won't affect my insurance but will affect it if I get another ticket.

I am going to check around for other lawyers. I guess the moral is to spread your ticket out over different counties...
