3" exhaust with no muffler or resonator...

ok well i was just wondering what the performance pros and cons of doing this would be, i was thinking about getting a custom 3" exhaust made that is basically a straight pipe and exits at the back like a normal single exhaust but with not muffler. ive read different things about 3" exhaust being too big fo n/a so not sure about whether to go with 3" or 2.75". also i know it will be very noisy so please no flaming about being a ricer. so let me know if this would work. thanx

would the noise level be pretty close to running just straight cat? cuz i had it like that for about a week a while back...

On a NA car a 3" exhaust would be too big and you would most likely lose power. Not to mention that you would probably be deaf in a few blocks. I'd stick with a 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch on a NA car.

Yeah, for a NA car, 3" is just too big. It will end up doing more harm then good, and if you could live with the sound of running an open exhaust on a NA car then maybe you need to get your hearing checked. It doesn't even sound good, its just obnoxiously loud and for the difference in power versus having a muffler, if there is one, it is not worth it IMO.

::gets pulled over for having an open pipe::

officer: Every time you drive through here the neighbors all complain, the dogs won't stop barking, and the dead start roaming the streets. It almost sounds as bad as when my great uncle charley gets a hold of the baked beans....

driver: It's ok officer, it's suppose to sound like that, it's a Honda....

would a 2.5 inch piping work with a 3 inch inlet Apexi N1 muffler if I wanted to go with a custom single exhaust setup instead of dual? What is stock S2K's current piping size? Would I gain or lose power if I used this setup, but if I wanted to go single exhaust, instead of dual? I want to do a 2.5 single exhaust with Apexi N1 muffler. Or should I go bigger piping for mroe airflow since Im converting to single?

Would be very loud, and very smelly

I installed a 3" exhaust last week, custom made from Canada.
And I can tell you it's LOUD

Between 3-5k rpm it's as loud as hell.
Above the 5k it's not loud at all, sounds like stock but when you floor it it sounds like a Formula car.

So cruising at 80mph isn't a problem at all.

This exhaust is actually made for Turbo applications. That deadens the sound enormously.
