Not a stupid question. Your top is vinyl.

A milky residue running down my car in the rain doesn't sound too inviting.

I'm only interested in protecting it from the wet, and I don't want to create one problem by solving another.

Any way to stop the stuff from running off?

Apply it sparingly, is what we've found over here

I usually take the top off of my 303 and put it on with a sponge applicator. Works a lot better than spraying it. My tops looks awesome, even with living in Florida.

The only negative is that you need to let it dry for awhile before putting your top down because it will streak the plastic window.

On Properautocare.com the 303 products are cheaper by buying the two in bulk size of 32oz instead of the vinyl kit which comes in 16oz bottles. (303 Vinyl Cleaner and 303 Aerospace Protectant). I've been using 303 on the vinyl interior, tires, hoses and rubber seals.

I use the RaggTopp cleaner and protectant and love it.

I don't know what's "best", but I have been using 303 on mine since I first got it and it performs flawlessly. 303 keeps it jet black and repels water like a duck. I can't imagine any other product being noticably better.

I just applied 303 and my top went from an off black to a very deep black. If it performs as well as it make the top look than I am sold

I don't drive mine in the rain, so 303 is not a problem

I get mine here now (cheapest prices)

I've never had a problem with streaking in the rain. But I put it on "sparingly" as PWE 896 suggested. If it looks at all wet, I rub it with a towel until it doesn't. Works great.
