350Z Roadster versus S2000 August Road and Track, September C&D
Again, then S2000 whips them again, no matter what everyone Squawks, every major auto rag gives the nod to the S2000. Even JD Powers and Consumer Reports rate it the highest in this league.
Can't wait for the 2004 with a little more ponies.
S2000 0-60 5.5 sec $33 Slalom
350Z " " 5.7 sec $36 65.9mph
Audi TT " 6.6 sec $39K 63.4
BMW Z4 5.6 sec $40K 67.0
MB SLK AMG 5.0 sec $56K 65.0
Porsche Box 6.0 sec $42K 68.6
" Boxster S 5.7 sec $51K 71.6
Not bad for 33K
And if money is not object, Check out the Comptech S2000 in the September Car and Driver, rated #1 out of 12 cars.
0-60 4.7 sec 1/4 mile 13.3 0-100 11.2 sec but 68K, might be better to have two stock S2000's?
"The Honda S2000 remains one of the best bang-for-the-buck deals in the roadster market today"

Ha, Pedal, interesting isn't it how things change in nine months, now Car and Driver and Road and Track are great mags again. Bet when the S cleans up with the next round of comparos featuring the 2004 (car mags love torque so they'll really appreciate the '04), we'll have a love-in for the domestic mags. And on the 350Z, RX8, Bimmer(Z4) forums, you'll get all the "Honda must have paid them" stuff. Enthusiasts are the same at heart no matter what the brand.
The Honda S2000 remains one of the best bang-for-the-buck deals in the roadster market today" - in reality, including its visial presence, the S2000 is THE bang for the buck roadster on the market today

SMU1976, you grossly misconstrued the meaning of my comment. Chill out.
But now that you've broached the subject, a year or two ago (and as recently as earlier this year in Car and Driver), the S2000 was being beaten in every magazine comparison. Suddenly, without any change to the car, it's winning comparisons left and right. This is a puzzling shift.
Moral of the story: Don't buy what the magazines tell you to buy. Buy what you tell you to buy after you drive the cars yourself.

The 2003 may have some slight advantage over the 2000 due to minor suspension tweaking?

What I think...so its my personal thoughts...
Is that car magz. finally saw what the other car companies had to offer and it just wasn't on par with what the S2000 already had on the table.
And the other car companies had 2 to 3 years to come up with something better and they didn't.
Just my humble thoughts...

Subscribed to all the car mags, enjoy them, including Consumer Reports; sounds like you may be looking at them too? The S2000 was never beaten in EVERY magazine, better go down to your local library and review the archives. You probably referring to the hardtop sports car issue, where they strapped on a hardtop and compared it to the other hardtop sports cars.
JD Powers Report ranks the S2000 the best sports car, and highest convertible, behind the Porsche 911 (Autoweek page 6, two weeks ago). This was based on the 2000 year models, the S2000's first year of production. Consumer Reports has always rated the S2000 a "best buy" since its inception, and quality rankings for all parameters have trounced every single competitor in the class. I don't see the shift here?
And yes, as I said, the differences may not even be statistically significant, and I surely drove each car (though the 350Z was not out yet, I could not fit in the BMW, due to height, the Boxster was and is my favorite style, but overpriced, and repair record was poor and costly), but that was half the fun of the purchase. Who wouldn't test drive the cars in the class your buying?
I agree, the Car Mags are no Bible, Motor Trend may have had the Chevy Citation car of the Year. I also agree, don't buy what the magazines tell you, but I would contend that it is not wise to buy the most troublesome rated car and lowest ranking in initial quality with Consumer Reports and JD Powers? But, this is just my opinion, one dude, its not big deal, I may be wrong.
