Default 350z to S2000

Hey guys I'm from the my350z forum I currently own a 2003 350z with bolt-ons and tuned with uprev running low to mid 13's

I'm looking into buying an ap1 s2000 with the idea of doing a turbo setup on stock block and go for 11's is this realistic? I searched and seems like there are guys running those times and I've read the ap1 is a solid motor but is it anything like the VQ35 where around 400whp it gets iffy and even at that its not really reliable.

The F20c can easily handle 400whp and with the right setup and tune should be pretty reliable. If you plan on running the car at the track a decent amount the problem you are going to run into is the rear. They are weak and have a tendency to fail with hard launches. The S2k was not designed to be a 1/4 mile car but can be made into one with a little extra $$.

I would read through this thread to get knowledgeable: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/forum/142...by-inline-pro/

The internals of the S motor(s) have been able to handle 400whp no problem. As mentioned by S2kgreg, the differential is a possible weak point of launching (properly) is not something you are a master at.

Feel free to ask questions in the subforum provided if you can't find the information via search or in a specific thread.

Good luck!

welcome! I, too, came from my350z forums. I went from an ap1 to a 350z and now to an ap2.

no offense, but the VQ35 motor is junk...the F series motors in the S is much, much more reliable and takes to boost extremely well...400 hp is nothing...there are guys running 500, 600+ hp on stock motors with no issue

Why does 1/4 mile time matter to you? You're the second such person in several weeks after the launch of FF6 looking for one of these cars to run 11s.

Do you race 1/4 mile?
Do you take your car to a road course track?

1/4 racing is fun and the S2000 is a cool car.. I fail to see a problem.

honestly dude dont buy an s2k with 1/4 mile times in mind. s2k is hands down top 5 cars ever made (at actual consumer pricing) but not because of how well it runs at the strip. I wouldnt be comfterable with a FI set up and a stock diff/trans, you'll also need wheels/tires and the list goes on and on. You can run low 13s mid 12s with a stock base corvette, mustang, i think even an AWD platform would serve you better in the drag. s2k is for track/auto x days brotha (not saying it cant be done up as a drag car, just gonna cost A LOT)
