Just because the S wasnt designed to run 11s doesnt mean that it cant. 500-550whp is kind of the limit of "reliable" on pump gas. If you want to hit 400-450whp on a turbo set up, you probably wont have many if any issues as long as everything is done and tuned correctly. The weaker point in the equation is the differential / transmission, more specifically 2nd gear. People with high boost set ups have to upgrade the diff and transmission well before they have to start building the engine.

by upgrading the transmission you mean getting the v160 poopra tranny right?

Sorry I haven't checked this thread in a while.

The reason I care about 1/4 mile times is because thats what I race I currently run 13.5@106mph in my bolt-on 350z but I don't feel the VQ35 is a good motor to boost.

It seems there is much more support and availability boosting a s2000 but after reading a while its not the motor I have to be worried about but the tranny/diff so I'm currently reading on I should upgrade these to.

Buying an s2k for drag is not wise. You can buy a Mustang GT 99-04 version for $4000, $3500 if you're lucky and slap a kenne bell or vortech on it and be easily around 400rwhp running high 11s. I went from a 01 mustang GT with an intake, midpipe, tune, 3.90 gears and that shit was fast as balls but couldnt handle for crap. The mustang crowd will welcome you with open arms for dragging.

Also i just met a guy that used to drag his s2k (i dont think it was FI either) and he went through 3 rear ends. Rear ends are NOT cheap especially in hondas. In a ford you can get those pretty easy as regearing is almost mandatory for american muscle. i dont know why i dont see regears in import as much but most likely because imports arent focused on straight speed but more handling, drifting, slamming and stance and other shit.

Also, if you dont care about looks or handling, i'd go z28 over a mustang with a 6 speed LS1. Those things are so f@#kING GODDAMN ugly and it looks like a ghetto beater from compton but they are seriously FAST. AS. f@#k. stock 0-60 in the 4's...
or get a terminator cobra those things are bad ass.

A good compromise with looks, interior quality and speed would be a trans am. They look bad ass, sound bad ass and run an LS1 and can drag the devil out of his grave.

But i guess if you got money for boost and s2k, I left out the best option which would be a corvette. Those things z05+ handle real well, are fast as f@#k. Interior isnt great being domestic but id take that if i could.

I don't like domestic very much I can appreciate one but I wouldn't own one. If I could own one it would be a foxbody mustang.

I'm trying to do research on the s2k it seems the transmission can be upgraded to a v160 from a supra or go dogbox. The rearend I haven't got to yet but I would imagine there must be aftermarket LSDs that can handle a decent amount of power?

I don't want to just race though I want a nice car and fun car for driving around town

S2000 is perfect you can have a low 11s daily driver with crazy top end that will boost reliable past 200k at 400 hp. And will out handle pretty much anything

This is what I'm thinking I'm just currently researching how much a v160 transmission swap will cost and an upgraded diff.

Is there anything else I should know about boosting these cars other than the ap1 valve retainers cracking?
