Default 3D CAD (IGES) Model of S2K needed

Folks, I haven't posted in a while, but I am hoping someone can help me out. I need to get a CAD model of the S2000 in IGES format. I only need the vehicle's outer surface (or outer mold line in CAD-speak). It will be used for computational fluid dynamics analysis.

I did a search, and found a few leads from members that are even less active than me (some haven't posted since 2005!) and sent off some e-mails. That's probably a long shot, but you never know.

I am hoping someone has an IGES model of the S2K they can share with me, maybe even one they snagged from a member here in years past. I have several more recent 3D models, but they are all in rendering formats and not really suitable for the engineering analysis I need to do. I can't convert them to IGES, unfortunately.

If anyone can help me out, please send me a PM. If necessary, I can discuss more details of the project and address any issues you may have with releasing the geometry.

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

Craig

heh, i imagine this is going to be tough to come across unless you get ahold of one of the honda designers. there are bound to be several features that are not obvious and can greatly affect the CFD.

i could model it in solidworks and convert to IGES if i had a print of the shell, but where in the world are you going to come up with one?

It might be possible to scan in some 3-view drawings of the car (a bunch of them are available online) and manually lay out curves and mold lines, but that seems like it would be tedious and have questionable accuracy. I don't know though, I haven't ever tried to reverse engineer a geometry that is as complex as the S2K (I normally work with aircraft geometries, which are surprisingly easy to reconstruct from basic data).

I imported a sketchup model into autocad in 3d. I'm sure you can convert it to sat or iges pretty easily or use a more versatile cfd program.

I'd like to get a 3D model working in CATIA, only my purpose is just to tool around.

Believe it or not, try the need for speed sites.

nfscars.com

The models are compiled for the game of course, at much lower quality. Bu maybe one of the authors can help you out. Also, you can extract a model from some of the NFS games that have the S.

I doubt the companies will be very interested in helping, and they also have their licensors/licensees to worry about. I referred that site above (nfscars.net or .com, I can't remember which and I can't check, they're both blocked from my office), because these guys are in the busines of making and improving models in the NFS games. Some of them are really serious 3d modellers, and because they're just gamers, they have no bones about sharing models.

Still might be worth contacting game companies, I just wanted to clarify that I was referring to the independent modding community.

Race sim central forums (google it) as well, have a HUGE modding and modelling community. Now that I think about it, forget the NFS sites, you'll edfinitely find what you want at race sim central forums.
