4.57r with a taller 6th?
So I have been seriously entertaining the idea of getting a 4.57r gear for acceleration and started tossing around the idea of matching it with a taller 6th gear for highway driving.
Would this be the best way to go about getting acceleration while retaining long distance low-rpm cruizing capabilities?
Or would it be better just to swap the 4.57r gear and just run with that (reading the other post out about 5.5k rpm giving better gas mileage then lower rpm?)
Would Rick's be able to make a set like this for us? Would it be worth it?

You would have to change the transmission gear ratio. The final drive (4.57) cannot make the gear any longer.
To answer the question though, not really sure. I would imagine changing the tranny gears is a little more involved but I'm just speculating

4.57s on the highway is no big deal. You're going to do a complete tranny tear down and put in parts that don't exist and not likely to exist just to save a few hundred rpm?
70 mph is still only 4200 rpm on an AP1 with 4.57s. So, you speed and go 80 and do 4800 rpm. Again, no biggie.

Anyone out there knowledgeable in transmission work enough to give AssassinJN an estimate on the price of this option?

If it was possible, I would guess that to do such a thing would cost some $$$! The Cost to Benefit ratio just wouldn't be worth it IMO. As mentioned earlier, 4.57s on a AP1 is no biggie. RPMs are only a few hundreds different and you tend to get used to it after a while. Just get the gears, you won't be sorry!

Wait, shifting at 5500rpm is more gas efficient for the S than at lower RPMs? I've been trying to get in the mid 20s figure since everyone agrees that they only get that from DD. I pretty much only do city and shifiting @ around 3000-3500rpm. I've been getting mediore results of 19-20mph. Only tried it twice though.
I'm thinking now that it would be much less expensive and more practical to swap in an ap2 transmission and some 4.57 gears. That would give me essentially a 4.77 for 1-4 and a 4.4 for 5 & 6 right? I realize the numbers are off but something in that ball park. Any ideas how much this would cost?

this has been brought up before and the anwser is always too expensive
