5 years old last Friday
Well, a belated happy birthday to my S2000 which turned 5 years old last Friday (27/8).
Well actually it's a little older than that as it's build date is June '99 but it's been in my possession for that long.
I use it as daily commuter and have covered 79,985 km, or as close as dammit to 50,000 miles, for an average of 10,000 miles per year.
The VIN is 0081 and engine # 036, so as you can imagine, it is a very early vehicle and has had it's share of warranty issues including clutch replacement, 2nd-3rd and 6th gear synchros, replacement roof, battery and RHS headlight.
Other than that it has been trouble free motoring - no oil use, average 10km/litre fuel consumption. The biggest expenses have been insurance, 5-10k km servicing and tyres.
Much as I am keen to try as many different vehicles as possible I can see no other vehicle I would like to replace the S2k with so it's looks like I'm likely to keep it for another 5 years. I look forward to updating you all with a progress report at that time.

Great to see there are a number of other "vintage" (as in length of ownership) owners on this site. I'm vintage in both respects.
Tonight, my por S2k looked like it was almost going to meet its maker. I rounded a tight left hand intersection (we drive on the left) which I always take on my way home. Usually I take this corner without slowing down as I know it extremely well and I typically overtake a couple of slower cars as just about every other driver brakes for the corner.
Well tonight, it was raining heavily and my S02s are getting rather bald and well, let's just say that metal tram tracks (which run down the middle of our Melbourne streets) can get rather slippery in the wet. Needless to say, the backend came round about 120 degrees so I was sliding down the road sideways - in the correct direction of travel by the way! Not to worry as I know this road well and there are no obvious hazards awaiting me but I am very concerned that the drivers who I overtook rounding the corner will not be able to slow in time.
So I get the wheels pointed in the right direction and slide the backend around the correct way again and whoops I'm back on those wet tramlines and the tail is wagging 45 degrees each side before I gain some stability. No problems, just a little embarassment but I wonder how many of those other drivers would have realised they were watching a 50 year old in action instead of someone a lot younger.
