6500 rpms before 600 miles
Don't worry about it.
BMW suggests taking it easy during the break-in period too. Yet all of the M engines are dynoed across the entire rev range at the factory.

It is hard to resist.
I've had few urges to do so before hitting 800miles.
You know the worst thing is though, I found out later that my step-bro broke the vtec cherry at 200 miles despite my stern warning not to take it beyond 5.5k rpm.
That son of a b&*&!
I am a nice guy and I forgave him and let him drive again after the break-in.
But he came back with a dime size chip on the windshield. And you guys know what happened. He will never set a foot in my car ever again.
Even til this day, he begs me if he can take it out for a spin because he misses the vtec rush, that son of a b&*& has some nerve to say things like that.
Nothing feels worse when you thought you are doing a virgin but later find out that you are not!

I guess it is ok if done few times.
But it is prudent to follow the recommendation always.
My advice to others is that, don't let anyoneelse drive your car before the proper break-in or in my case even after the break-in

1Randyc, I know how you feel, the day I paid for my car the pink slip had 6 miles printed on it. When I got the car the next day there were 17 miles on it. I am very suspicious that the service guys took it upon them selves to have fun with my car before I could. It still makes me mad to this day, even after 4500 miles and some months. Needless to say that dealership got a very bad review. I just couldn't turn around and say I didn't want the car because there were a few extra miles on it.
When I went to pick up mine last year it was out on a joy ride by one of the suits upstairs..."Man that thing really revs.." the comment apon his return.
After being on a waiting list for over a year, I was pi$$ed and refused to take delivery of that car and told them to call me when the next one was due so I could watch roll off the truck.
The car got a by the book break-in and I have used half a quart of oil between changes.
I don't think you have anything to worry about. On a normal car it would be like revving to 4300 RPMs instead of keeping it below 4000.
