Default 7000 RPM launch breaks drivers inboard CV Joint!!!

WOW!!!!

Was I surprised! I think that was the loudest noise I ever heard. I have an ACT clutch and Stock wheels and tires on the car. Should this have happened? Lets see if the dealer covers this under warrantee. Do you think they will?

I wouldn't mention that you were doing a 7000 rpm clutch drop!

Any mechanic worth the money he's getting paid is going to know that didn't happen under typical driving stress. You can probably get it covered under warrantee, but no one's going to believe you were just driving along and the CV joint self destructed.

If you put a more powerful clutch on this car, then you're just transferring that energy to the next weakest part of the driveline. In your case, that's the CV joint.

I am guessing this was not the 1st such launch on the car!

from my interpretation, honda made the clutch to be the weakest link on the drivetrain. i would imagine that's also the cheapest part to replace out of the drivetrain.

Actually it was! This is my second S and I pretty much abused the first one. I had not dragged this car. Every race I have run on the street was a rolling start. I have not launched this car hard until this. Previous attempts to launch with the stock clutch resulted in clutch slippage. So I waited until I had broken my ACT clutch in to attempt a good launch.

On a side note:
I stopped by the dealer to inquire with the tech about warrantee work on this. He told me Honda will debit the dealership back if they warrantee something and Honda finds out the damage was from abuse. He said they may not warrantee it!!!

SORRY, I HATE TO HEAR THAT...But it has been fairly well documented here that those high rpm clutch dumps are breaking one thing or another on the drive train....As much as i love to drag, and run the 1/4 mile, i never go above 4g's. it may hurt my time, but IMO lowers the risk of the above happening.....Best of Luck getting it covered, I hope you dont have to drop too much cash as a results of pure fun
