740 mile trip, do I take the S
I'm driving to Florida next week (plane fair was CRAZZY) it's 740 miles. Do I take the S2k or my Altima 3.5se. I really want to take the S and surprise my Dad (haven't told him I bought it yet). How is the car on long trips? Can you guys give my any input?
Thanks
Thanks
haha
well just returning from a 6 hr straight drive in a word .. no.
i went to see a intergra type r in jacksonville and i live in lakeland, about 189 miles each way. first fifty miles felt good, 55 ass hurt. im a skinny kid and i have no cushin. one thing that i think really affected the drive was my seating postion, bc i was trying to sit further away, but had to sit more upright, and i love to slouch. but i had to change sides about every 40 miles after that. i loved the ride however and some of the roads had some nice bumps. the car (03) was definatly not too stiff (i love how it rides!), just seats were too hard, and not enough leg room, my knee rides uncomfortably on left of radio/center console and on door panel (im 6ft). i wish it had the room of an nsx. those things are really big inside! However if you get along super well with the seats and are really comfy in your seating postion go for it. i had a lot of fun driving my s, and powering down the highway. when i got there, the car was a joke and i immediatly left. by the time i got home i was alright, just a numb ass, and i detailed a new mustang, and caught myself thinking of buying one due to the uber comfy seats. hahaha. (ford=found on road dead.)
good luck either way but id be more afraid of stone chips than anything else

Maybe some people here would disagree, but I don't find the S2000 very comfy on long trips. I live in Fresno and sometimes drive up to Sacramento (166 miles) and by the time I get there, my right leg is numb and my back sores. The S is fun to drive, but not on long trips IMO. Owning a lexus before the S, I guess I can say I'm a bit spoiled from the comfy ride. I don't regret buying the S, but if you really want to show your dad the S, then I'd say go for it. Just stop and rest if you feel the need to. 740 miles is not a short trip!!!
It really depends on you. I've taken it on multiple long trips of over 4hrs all the way up to 12hrs and never had a problem. But if you can't get comfortable then you're screwed. Maybe get a seat cushion if it worries you.

I've taken one 5+ hour trip in the S and almost went out of my mind. At about the four-hour mark I became really uncomfortable. I put on the cruise control and eventually shifted my legs into a comfy position, though I probably would have been in trouble if I had to brake suddenly.
So, my answer is no. However, I'm in my 30's. If your still in your 20's (or younger), then you can probably take the abuse. Just stop and stretch a lot. I can certainly understand wanting to take the S. I go through this same decision every time I have a long trip.
P.S. Where in FL are you going that the trip from Wilmy is 740 miles.
