Default 7500 mile maintenance at dealer

Well, I was foolish (dumb? stupid?) enough to have the dealer do the "7500 mile maintenance", as opposed to simply changing the oil.

Final result: $213 poorer

This is more than I have paid for either BMW or Mercedes service at that interval!

At least they didn't rotate the tires.

Sorry to hear it dude. I hope you don't go back there. Imagine what they would do to you now that they know you are sucker.

Follow the manual and you can't go too wrong.

Well, I learn quick. I think perhaps my next S2000 related purchase will be a Helm manual.

Well, look on the good side - my door hinges and latches are now freshly lubricated

One sad thing, though - the box for "clean antenna mast" is not checked, so my antenna is still dirty

WHOA!

Go back to the dealer and speak with the service manager and DEMAND a refund! That is crazy!

I remember that my dealer wanted to charge something short of $100 and if you look at what they do it is so senseless! First of all, they can not rotate and balance the tires (that's at least $50). Also, most of their service points include CHECK this and CHECK that! Why are we paying a premium for someone to CHECK something!?!

My Stook is about to run up on 30k miles and that's the ONLY service I plan on paying for (of course. . .other than the regular oil changes and major service calls like 15k, 30k, 45k, 60k, etc. . .).

I am so sorry! It just pisses the bejeeses when I see stuff like this go on!

But aren't these stupid maintenance routines required to keep the warranty satisfied? Are we not stuck having them do these ridiculous checks and at whatever price they want to charge?
If anyone has a work around for not paying them this juice money any yet keeping the warranty please let me know.
I have been wondering about this and haven't discovered any infomation on the Web on yearly maintenence costs for the S2000.
Thanks for any responses on this.

that's crap. i would complain to the service manager and the general manager. I seem to recall being quoted $85 for that service.

If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that they did a whole bunch of shit that the manual did not call for.

I hate crappy dealers.

That does sound like a pretty pricey charge for what is basically an oil change.

Well I also was... shall we say, not that smart and had them do the 7,500 mile service ($75).

Had I consulted my Helm manual I would have also learned that they simply change the oil. On a car this new, all of the other minor checks are no brainers.

I think you'll find there's a consumer protection law which states that a warranty cannot be voided just because a service is not done by the dealer, as long as you have a record that the service was done - whether by another servicing facility, or even yourself - as long as you have receipts to prove it. If you do it yourself and subsequently have a warranty claim which the dealer disputes due to lack of maintenance records, you MAY have to prove (to an arbitrator?) that you did the service yourself - by demonstrating that you are competent to carry out the maintenance tasks you performed, and that you have receipts for all parts and any necessary special tools used when you did those maintenances.

I wrote that from memory, but I believe that is a summary of what I read in an issue of Consumers Report. Perhaps someone else can confirm that.
