89 octane - Try Once - but only once
I confess - I got curious so I put in 89 octane. Everyone should do this once just to see what it does. I felt that the car still ran beautifully. But, it lacked just a little bit of the edge that it normally has. On 0-15 it was the most slack. On the freeway when I just wanted to punch it to move in and out of traffic, it didn't hestitate - still fast as can be but ... not quite the knife like cutting edge. So, everyone should try this once because it will show you just how much Honda has squeezed out of this engine and it will remind you of the difference between excellent performance and great performance. .... I was afraid to try 87 octane....

No, seriously, I was curious cause I'll be taking the car back home at the end of the year where 91 octane is not easy to come by. Actually, most gas stations just carry one kind which I think is somewhere around 88. I always wondered how the car would behave (or misbehave) with 89 octane. Thanks for the info.
Where I live 91 unleaded is the cheaper fuel by about 5 cents a litre. 96 is the Premium. The dealer said the car would run more economically on Premium. Being unleaded may increase the risk of detonation, esp if VTECing a lot, I would guess.
A few months ago, I (very) accidentally filled my car with 87 octane. I had a bad day at work, then pulled up to the pumps, selected the 87 and.............well, I was halfway through pumping when I realized my mistake. So I stopped, paid, and then filled it the rest of the way with 93.
The car felt a little sluggish when accelerating, but there wasn't any knocking or pinging
